Truck driver from New York killed in I-95 crash in Maryland
This one particularly sad. The reporters never get the stories written correctly. This was probably a tow truck driver. Not too clear.
Either way.
Guys- orange vests, little triangles, orange cones, hope, or even tow truck. ambulance, or police car flashing lights will not deter these shoulder parked tragedies. I know, I know, if theyd only read some of the brilliant users of TruckerReports and check for lane clearance prior to careening out of control and crashing into parked...
Yet, somehow, they just dont. So, Only 1 thing prevents these tragedies. If even remotely possible, Dont.Park.On.Shoulder. For the good of yourself, your family, the other guy and his family. Think.
Over manymany years ive been forced on the shoulder maybe 5 times. Im always able to make an exit ramp or side street. If we must stop, don't stand on the traffic side of your rig. If Troopers present, respectfully ask to go to other side away from traffic. They know the drill.
Trip planning. Coolant issues are roadside killers and usually preventable. Flats, load checks, etc...try to make a ramp- preferably the back side of the exit ramp if possible.
This driver on I95 Baltimore probably didn't have a choice. Most do. Think.
RIP Sir. Blessings.
Baltimore.i95.RiP Sir.

well to be honest, there have been quite a few times, i have seen truckers wearing a reflective vest....some companies require it on company property, for one, and i have seen many wearing a vest while on a customers property and then some walking thru a truckstop lot.
so it doesn't have to just be a tow driver. -
silverspur, Old_n_gray, takeheed777 and 1 other person Thank this.

I pulled drop decks 15 years. It's a constant issue. You're right on. Go to the ramps at very least. Some truck schools are teaching shoulder use. ??
silverspur Thanks this. -
Lost the lights on my rear box the other night headed to long Island. Hit a ramp and fixed them.
silverspur Thanks this.
