Not a problem anymore. Just got tired of the problem and left to go somewhere else. It got me home every day, but just not worth it.

currently my dispatcher and I are fighting over this very same issue. he likes the fact that my truck is one of the best running bark haulers in the fleet and if I am at home for the day will try to put someone else in the truck. that was until the owner found out and hit the roof and told my dispatcher (his son in law) that I am the only one to be in the truck unless I say that someone else can drive it for the day if I am not going to be there.

This just blows me away that they can take away the right to smoke in your own vehicle. As a non-smoker, I would much rather have you guys smoke in your trucks rather that out in the open with me. But why do we need laws regulating what you can do in your own space. You aren't hurting anyone but yourself, we don't need laws for this. If a company wants to make a rule, that is one thing, but the government, WTF?
Once again, this is a free country, at least in theory. If you don't like sharing a truck with a smoker, don't work there, or talk to the owner. If it is important to the owner, he will tell the other guy not to smoke in the truck. If it isn't, then take a hike and find a better job. But we don't need more government regulation and intrusion into our lives.

I hate smoke - I'm allergic to it and it gives me an INSTANT migraine. I'd LOVE to see smoking outlawed in ALL truck stops and I'd love to see trucks designated as non-smoking. Maybe have some of each? That's fine with me but don't make me sit in your disgusting stinky smoky truck. Smoking is filthy and the smell and residue get everywhere.

Mike worked for a company that said NO SMOKING IN OUR TRUCKS but they all did it anyway. He'd have to throw his clothes in the wash the second he got in the door or I'd be hurting badly. It was so gross. Even clothes he didn't wear stunk of smoke.

I love it that there's no public smoking any more here. It's nice.

I can't wait for California to ban smoking in trucks. I have yet to find a bar in the state where the law is enforced and that ones been going for years. Over my Christmas break I spent time in 3 different bars and all three had ashtrays out and people smoking where ever they pleased. I have been up and down the state and never found a smoke free bar. Good luck with the trucks.

There is NO smoking in bars here period. It's very well enforced. I'm too old to care now, though. When I DID want to go "out", they smoked everywhere and I could never handle it - it made me ill.

When I was hired, they told me there was no smokers on the truck relay. After I started, the truth became known. As you can see by my later post, I left as soon as they could find a replacement.

I have a right to live and work in a smoke free environment as much as you have the right to work and live in a smoke environment.

I can't stand to be around smokers either. That is not right that they told you one thing, and reality was another. You did your part to make sure that you'd be working in a smoke free environment, I'm sorry that it didn't turn out to be that way.

Same here. Mike was told there was NO SMOKING EVER allowed in the trucks. Yeah, right. NOT!!! So glad he's not there any more!!! He does slipseating now because he works local and even the smokers keep their trucks meticulously clean inside and they DO NOT smell. They clean the inside of the truck at the end of EVERY shift enough to get out the smoke smell and they clean the interior windows. I'm quite impressed, actually.

Americans have the right to smoke just like Americans have the right to breathe fresh air. Most of the time, if you ask nicely and don't go into a huge spiel about it, the smoker will be happy to put it out and save it for later. I do agree that if it says no smoking, nobody should be smoking. However, states have no right to say what I can do in my own living quarters. That truck is not my office, it's my living quarters. My home, mi casa, Da Crib. I don't smoke anymore but I have always been a supporter of smokers rights.
