Do you input once a week, once a month or everyday?

Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds
Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.

I am not a driver yet, Start in 3 weeks with Stevens in Houston My best suggestion is to pick a day (hard to do in trucking I am told) and stick as close to it as possible. Every week is a good idea and reconcile accounts once a month.
Luckily, I will have my personal finance adviser (aka wife) to do most of it for me but I still get to dig into it occasionally. We will each have a copy and share online. -
When I go Grad with Stevens I plan on having a small scanner to image and store receipts. Scan and trash the paper copy. After a week the thermals are faded and no good anyway. Online backup will keep them safe. something like skydrive or dropbox should do the trick. With all the deductions allwed in trucking, it will be a big help to keep all of those.
On a CYA note. I used to work for a company that I used my personal vehicle to work out of. They paid for gas, but expected mileage to be entered when fueling on the fleet card. and were sticklers about filling up at each fueling. Several people were fired for not being able to prove they filled up (topped off) or had no evidence to back it up. I have a camera phone (iphone) and would sit the receipt with sale and fuel information in a position on the dash that I could get a picture of the fuel gauge, the odometer and the receipt in one shot. Everything on both matched, every time. It saved my butt when they came calling on me saying that I fueled before I went on vacation and used 'their' fuel. I had the images to back it up. I still did this after I left and started my own business, so I could document my own mileage and keep a record of my receipts. (and GPS info is added to exif tags so that you can locate exactly where you were when the picture was taken)dtcscout Thanks this. -
Wow,really good info.Since I don't have a wife,I've got to do the whole job by myself.UGH
I used to have a full time bookkeeper ,but since the economy crash I could barely afford the darn quick books software! My my how times have changed....I've been driving for years,so if you need any extra help, let me know,bc once I open that darn QB again,I'm sure I could use a Lil help myself..lol
Good luck to you with Stevens. -
Btw..what kind of portable scanner?
-
just a small pass-thru scanner, you can find them at office depot or best buy for $99 or less
-
I wish there was a scanner for the ipad bc just so much easier than toting my laptop.besides I don't have an invertor in my new truck yet.
-
The power plug inverter will work with most small laptops and scanners, just find a 300 watt one and they will be ok.
-
Careful with the small investors,I had one cook my brand new laptop once
