I dont see any haters. You sound more like a jealous hater in disbelief that people can net $3k weekly on average. Well maybe not jealous. I mean by definition of what most people consider a hater.. your content sounds more negative then what the other guys are trying to explain to you.
I pull step deck and I personally NET an average of $2900 - $3900 range week after week except when I head home or feel lazy. Sure I can have a slow week with $2200, or a really good week netting over $4500. No weeks are ever the same.
I'm leased on to a very small carrier with a fantastic dispatch. I hustle to make what I make. Make no mistake about that. Its not easy. When I head out I am purpose minded with 1 goal and that is to run as hard as humanly possible with out killing myself. So yes.. my net is typically well above $3k most weeks. But I earned it.
To make the money you have to run hard and be willing to stay out more then 2 - 3 weeks. I stay out typically 5 - 6 weeks. Depends how I feel or if I need to be home. I gone home after 2 weeks and I've stayed out 3 months when my wife was with me.
I read where guys who say they dont run as hard as I do and spend more time at home and claim they make as much or more. I wont discredit anyone. I know how it works for me and for me it means running hard.
I dont mind showing my settlement numbers. I keep my records on excel spread sheets. But I have no intention of posting my actual booking/confirmation sheets. You'll have to take me at my word or go pound sand.

He is looking to clear a certain amount of money that isn't very likely to happen if you're home every weekend. But if you can clear $2500 or better and be home every weekend, I stand corrected and want to know where I can sign on!

I think some folks come under the illusion that owning a truck you should be mega rich and not have to work as hard as a company driver. I wish thats how it was.
Well.. not for me at least. I mean here I am leaving my regards at a Wyoming rest area. Soon as I hit submit post I've got 4 more hours before I reach where I will hit the bunk and then deliver in the morning. Grab my next load. Catch up on some sleep and run all night again to make that delivery.

Exactly and the only weeks I make considerably less are weeks I head home. Can't always make the most money when you're wanting to go to a certain location...home. That's why going home every week just doesn't work unless you're willing to make less like 379exhd is and if that works for him then great. Some people need to be home. Me, I need the $$$ and our kids are grown. The wife and dog run with me. We're working on banking retirement $$$. Going home every week would be awesome but I would be better off at the company job I had then and be home every night with no worries.

In the ports with the last company I worked I was making 2500 to 3.3 best week with them pulling flatbed and oversize every once in awhile but normal my net would be 2 k with maybe 700 miles a week was a really good gig... But though flat bed would have been better I was home every night this is in port newark

My average settlement is over $3,000 weekly (not net) and I go home often. Every weekend and during the week usually twice a week. I only work 26-30 weeks a year on average. For the rest of the year about half that time my lanes are pathetic and not even worth starting the truck the other half I could probably scrape together some decent weeks. If you live in a decent area you should be able to make decent money and get home. Southeast and Midwest it should be easy, well, maybe not easy but do-able. I spent 10 years of my life churning out 3,500 mile weeks and quiet frankly that's a lousy life. All the money in the world it still sucks. But they never paid that well anyways.

Would living near a big city help with loads and getting home every weekend?? I live between Chicago and Rockford il, would it be possible to run a flatbed and make a $2000+ a week and be home every weekend??
-
The problem I see is that if your trying to support a family AND keep a truck on the road,.. $2000 a week really isnt that much money.
If you really want to be home every weekend, dont be an O/O. Go do LTL or work for someone else and let them deal with all the expenses and hassles.
I go out 4 - 6 weeks. I come home for 7 - 10 days before I go back out. Typically I can spend 3 - 4 days working on my truck while I am supposed to be home relaxing. So to me running a truck hard all week and expecting to be home relaxing for the weekend is an impossible task.
My first O/O gig I hauled cars and was home every weekend. By the time I caught up with sleep, took care of BS things and did my laundry, it was time to go back out. It sucked.

Isn't Chicago a good area for flatbed rates? He should easily be able to get home often up there and bring home a $2,000 settlement without hardly trying. $3,000 would not be impossible. Hurst, you guys saying going home weekends and making solid settlements is impossible are wrong. And no I'm not talking about pulling cans for peanuts either. Anyone living in the southeast or midwest pulling flats or vans ought to be able to pull it off with relative ease. IMO it's the only way to truck. Only way I ever have. All of the regional operations I know of where I live with 50-300 truck fleets operate that way. The part that sucks about staying out weeks on end, especially when you don't have to, is doing resets in truckstops every weekend. Truckstops are a necessary evil - get my fuel and leave quickly as possible. Don't park at one if all possible which I seldom ever do except for showers. Do a reset at one? Laundry? No way...
