I’ll tell you what I use is a big homemade T-bar type puller. Like Jim I got a couple different made adapters like seal drivers. I’ve never not had it work on anything.

Oldman83 and mile marker 27 Thank this.

I've got one that you run a head bolt through the end of the handle, and it has a threaded pivoting arm that drops down from about 1/3rd the length of the arm.

I've got a similarity designed (roughly) old AF tire bead breaker I can get a pic of.

I'll draw one if nobody has a pic, but the arm has a round head similar to a seal driver end like @wore out mentioned.

Put your head bolt through the end, lift the bar up and set the round head on top of the liner, pull down on the other end of the bar.

The press is in one of my storage trailers somewhere, or I'd get a pic.

I normally put a thick mudflap down on top of the liner, and also use the hardwood block.

When my 855 was redone, the guy that did it made me go buy a few headbolts, he showed me the slightest pitting on them, he said NFG. Also went to chase down a few pushrods, 2 were slightly bent and 2 were straight but had oil inside them. I’m sure you all know what to look for, was just sharing what happened to mine back in 1994.

I’ve learned not to assume anything, within those 6 holes, is good. Drop them pushrods, on end, on the concrete and listen from a ping. No ping, no good. It’s a distinct sound.
