It sucks watching your dad go through that. Make sure you have a good lawyer that knows what he is doing look at all that stuff. My brother and I were young when Dad went. Used his lawyer who didn't know anything and got hosed. Found out years later we didn't have to sell his house or declare bankruptcy if we had someone who knew how to do it right.

Try to keep a clear head.
    Be logical and financial savvy.

Easy words for me to type.........not so easy for BD to do.

Nor for me atm...that's cool you have his back tho...a good bunch of us do, even if it's a phone call or text. I'm in the same predicament and not working anywhere NEAR as hard as I should be for financial gain atm either.

I lost my father a very long time ago so i know what you both are going thru.
    You feel frustated,angry,powerless,.......
Thru all that you have to manage to the all the right things.
    A lot harder then trucking.

Anybody who can do that and not shed a tear is either a tough sob or has little to no love for the person they are about to lose.

My heart goes out to both off you.

Thanks, man. Listening to that song doesn't help but I listen to it often. Said I wouldn't but ... the shed is good, I guess.

I am the last one, grandparents, parents and siblings are all past. Have had to deal with all of the things you are starting on. Not an easy road.

I will tell you these things.

Get a good accountant, they will save you more than they cost by 10 fold. Being an enrolled agent is bonus. If it is a firm with tax attornies is also bonus. One of the first tasks for them is to get together a full accounting of your fathers financial situation. Then you have a document trail start point. You will need this later.

Get a good attorney. You don’t want a trial type, you want a solid family type. One who deals with estate plans and that type of thing. A group or firm with people who deal with disability is also good, they can work on getting medicare type stuff to pay.

These people should be able to help get things like social security, pensions and the like in order.

Your going to need powers of attorney. Full boat here.
If your sister is really not willing to take a roll, make, sure you get the attorney to put together a letter or document stating she want no involvement and is uncontested giving all the decision powers to you. This one is a big thing. You will want it later.

Insurance. If there is any insurance policies, find them, get with the agent the services them. Some policies will pay advanced benefits.

One more item. This sounds really harsh, vulture like.
Get a complete inventory of the household. Item by item, everything. Even the dishes and the kitchen sink.
You will be looking at building a net worth profile. Your going to need this later.

Sorry to hear about your dad BD. You got to do what you got to do. Trucking will always be here if you decide to get another truck.
