There is a grief process. Time will be the factor.
Your feelings of relief are solid and appropriate. It is the human nature to not want to see any form of suffering, more so that it is a family member.

While the physical may be gone, the memories, good, bad or otherwise are with you always.

You will have a lot of things to do over the next several days. It may actually seem overwhelming at times.
Take things one step at a time. Now is not the time to try and multitask. Keep your focus.

You also need to have some time for yourself. Find, figure out and set aside at least an hour or more every day that is strictly your time. Do nothing that is not all about you.
Go to diner, see a movie, anything absolutly not related to the days tasks. Don’t even talk about it. Decompression time.

The house and all the other stuff collected over time.
No rush to do anything for a week or two.
Not going to go anywhere, nothing is going to happen to it. You will need to deal with it. But don’t need to do it today. Dealing with estates are vampires. You need your full attention on the matter. Right now you don’t.
How about August 1st. Good date, start of a fresh month. Start with a fresh perspective and a plan.

It took 6 times for me to learn some of this stuff.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my dad last year. It gets easier, but I don't think anyone ever completely gets over losing a close family member.

I'm sad for you and your sisters loss, It must be rotten for you.

But for your old Dads sake maybe it's a blessing in disguise, at least his time of confusion and very poor health was short, and he didn't have all he'd worked for used to pay off his final care bills.

When my time comes, if the last part is as short as possible and I've weaned offspring that's turned out like you I'd consider that a decent hand. RIP.

Got to say, this setting around doing very little is about to drive me bat #### crazy. At this point I've done all I can do but already know I have to be back here on the 25th and then again on August 13. This time things are much more involved since we're dividing up the assets between my sister and me. Whole dam process is depressing as hell. Been spending my spare time working on the truck. Dropped the fluid out of all 3 boxes and replaced it with fresh. Flushed out the radiator and refilled the coolant and replaced a power steering pump that was whining and starting to use some fluid. Now, I am officially out of stuff to do for awhile. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, then I'll sort out how to proceed.

    More later...
