Yep, 20.5 cents per mile. I'll be bugging out along the same route, but the road tax has been calculated into the rate. Cost of doing business out there. I'm quietly working on a deal to take this load regularly. Very good rate and the backhaul, while not as much, is only about ..0335 cpm less and it's an easy tarp job...providing it isn't raining to hard. If its pouring down, I'll mutter a little and get on with it. That's open deck.

Well, the last two days have just been rough. Got a load of bad fuel...thanks for nothing Loves. Had to stop in -16 degrees and swap a fuel filter and of course it lost prime. Usually with an S60 that's not a big deal but for some bloody reason or another it just refused to cooperate. Then I figured it out, the wiesel...the water and diesel I got from Loves...had froze in the pick up tubes so out comes the 911. Put a bottle in each tank and topped off the fuel filter with it and just sort of waited while attempting to stay warm. Thirty minutes later it spit and coughed and finally started up. Today I just ran as hard as possible to salvage my delivery time and make sure I didn't miss out on the load back to NC. I managed to get inside a window today that made that possible but I burned galactic amounts of fuel to do it. Well, I guess that's trucking. Hope y'all managed better than me the last couple days.

So far so good except one truck I had in Michigan. -18 this morning with -40 wind chill. All was good unless he was going down the road and then problems would arise. Trucks on the side of the road like crazy. 6 hr wait at the truck stop. Cummins changed our fuel filters. My latest trucks all have fuel tank heaters and I’ll never buy a truck again without them.

What’s crazy is we have been idling all trucks for the last few days since it got cold, and treating fuel at double strength. What I think is going on is the -18 air at 65mph is freezing up the filters. If he ran 55 it would be ok at about 2 lbs on the fuel gauge, but at 65 it would go to 20 and the red light come on. If he idled at the truck stop it would eventually be ok. Long story short Cummins changed out the filters and they were frozen. Like I said, it’s fuel tank heater equip’d trucks from here in out. Atleast then fuel would be warmer by the time it got up to the engine.

I've been having to do parked regens during cold weather. I never had to do parked regens before, so I'm wondering if how I drive now is keeping the EGTs too low for passive regens, or if it's time for a new filter. I don't really idle much, so I know it's not that, and it seems to be with every cold front.

My wiper fluid froze in the lines. I've got a gallon of the good stuff in there now. At least here in Colorado, it gets nice during the daytime. -9F in the mountains, 2 hours later in Denver it's 50F.

Got loaded up yesterday and decided to short the day to get back on my preferred run schedule starting at 0300. Went to bed with a slight headache and a tickle in the back of my throat. Woke up feeling rough and it just kept getting worse. Now after 680 miles I feel like complete hammered crap. Pulled into a little mom and pop truckstop hoping to find something on the shelf to make me feel better but all they had was tylenol...not much help for a nasty cough and some severe aches. Then Mom came out from the back, took one look at me and sat me down to a streaming bowl of soup and disappeared for 10 minutes or so. When she reappeared she had a dang pharmacy in a bag and began fussing over me and pumping me full of medicine and wouldn't take a penny for it. Now I'm back in the truck about to go to sleep and I'm feeling a bit like I just met an angel.

Just goes to show that all is not lost — I drug a rock drill to an “ end of the road” location out in the desert of Northern Nevada a little while back as a favor . Total SS and crap day. Was starving, so pulled into a little roadside bar/grill to get a burger. Grill was closed, but Mom had just killed and fried a chicken for their dinner — moved supper time up and invited me and it was excellent. Good people are still out there if you look.

Could I please, just one bloody time, catch a tailwind. I'm sick to death of busting 40mph head and crosswinds. Last couple winters it was snow, couldn't escape it wherever I went. This year its heavy winds.

Be glad to get on to the house.
