BD69: The Owner Operator Chronicles

After 2.5 years running under my own authority I had a first this week. I quoted a price to a broker who then told me he'd have to "check with his customer" and get back with me.

I smirked to myself and thought, yeah right, see ya later. Lo and behold, the guy called me back and said he got approval for the higher rate. I ran the easy peasy 3 drop money maker for the guy and he's so happy he called me back today and asked if I can run another one for him next week.

Should I tell him the first one I did was just my introductory rate and the next one is 25% more?

 

What codes are setting?
My guess is you have a bad wire some where in the harness.
Could be at a connector. Cummins are real picky about voltage.

 

Nah.. If you quoted it high enough in the first place that could be some gravy for you a time or two for a few weeks ahead. Until eventually he asks you to cut your rate or ditches you for someone cheaper. Love it when this scenario happens. Easy money.

 

Yeah, it wasn't so much that I got my asking rate, as much as I was surprised he called me back after he used that standard bullcrap line so many brokers use about checking with their customer first.

 

Hmmm, have you done a crank case pressure test?
Most call it a blow by test.

What I am thinking is it may be in the main engine harness. If memory serves me, the injector harness has a fairly large connector. The problem may be in that engine harness, just after the injecter harness connector.

By any chance did the injector harness have oil in it?
Does any of the engine harness seem rigid or brittle?
Like it has been to close to high heat.

 

Would not good, sound not good?

Check the plugs at the ECM, any oil?
Had that happen on a Detroit, took out the ECM.
Ended up filling the ECM with oil. Ran down the harness right to the ECM.

 

A big problem i had with every 71 and 92 series i owned is those #### 2 strokes pumped so much oil out that they would ruin all the sensors. Thank god the only thing those sensors did was feed the gauges.

 

Must be our lucky week!! Same thing happened to me Friday, broker called me on a 750 mile dry van load. 1 pick 1 drop 18k lbs, loads Sunday going to a decent area. I really didn't want to leave Sunday so I gave him a ridiculously high qoute, 15 minutes later he sent me the Rate Con. I'm heading out Sunday grinning like a possum eating grapes!!!!
