Hey folks! I’m writing this from the hospital room!
I learned a tough lesson today. I have a mild concussion from getting whacked in the head by the bar that pulls the tail of my conestoga tight. A pin came out coming down the road, and when I let the tension off to open it up, it tomahawked my head.
In all my years I have never seen that happen before.
Im fine. I’ll be out and back at it tomorrow. They just wanted to keep me for observation and my company wouldn’t let me drive anywhere anyway. Which I completely understand.
Be careful out there! Injured by the conestoga tension bar.

That sucks. Looks a bit different from the conestoga that I pull. I’ve never had an issue like that either though.

The Skateboard Life. #### happens.

That cotter pin in the first picture isn't installed correctly. It either needs to be pushed in further or replaced with a longer one so the legs can be bent over to secure it.
I hope your company is taking care of that injury under their workers comp insurance. -
This is why we always wore a hard hat (brain bucket) on the drilling rig.
Glad you’re ok and will be back on your feet soon, it could have been worse.
Seems a walk around inspection will include a little squirrel hunting as well as rabbit hunting. It’s the little things that take you by surprise.
My freind has a couple contastoga trailers with this style system on them. Good setup since it pulls from the center…. -
It’s a good system. Keeps the tarps nice and tight. Once locked not really any chance it lets go.Oldman83, cke, CAXPT and 1 other person Thank this.

I own a conestoga myself, but it pulls only from the bottom. What you have here is a better system far as I’m concerned….Oldman83, cke, CAXPT and 1 other person Thank this. -
Glad your OK and good on you for posting. But yes that cotter pin in the pic, if not just popped back in, and even then is a disaster waiting. Installed correctly there is no way it can some out of it location unless it sheers. But its job is not to take the load, just secure the bit that does. So may have been installed poorly initially. Not looking to blame but lucky it was not your eye.

Looking at the pic he posted, it definitely has the wrong cotter pin. Most likely a Friday night build before beer:30….

Sorry about your injury, here is another one, filling up this morning, went to walk to the front of the truck, tripped over the fuel line and ate it, hit the front tire on the way down, and my cool little hubcap covers ended up slicing my eyelid open, took some to the belly also but just basically scratches with very light punctures. So now I get to clean my eyelid with alcohol swabs twice a day to make sure this don't get infected
Magoo1968, Crusader66, cke and 9 others Thank this.
