If each dispatcher has 80 trucks they told another lie cuz in orientation they said they only have 140 trucks...If they was such a good company why did u leave? I'm not crying about it either..I have a good job for a smaller company and run more miles and make more money then I ever made with that #### hole company...I did turn them in to d.o.t. and for leaving me stranded...law is they had to get me a bus ticket home...

And nothing will happen they have bigger fish to fry, and I looked all through the FMCSA Handbook and there is no law thatsays they have to get you home. Maybe the Tenn Dept of Labor could do something, which I doubt.

I am currently a driver for Beacon. I have been with them a little over 2 1/2 years, have been "Driver of the Month" twice, and have always received decent performance reviews. While they have never been a GREAT company, they were not bad. Or at least I didn't think so, until yesterday...that's when they did the one thing that I consider more disrespectful than any other - left me wondering why my pay wasn't in the bank, without explanation. I will explain -

A couple of weeks ago a trailer I was pulling was damaged. How it happened is still unknown, but it happened on my watch...fine, I've been a driver over 20 years, also a general manager, an HR manager, and a safety manager of interstate carriers (I always return to driver because I can't stand being locked indoors!) I know full well that when damage occurs to equipment in your care that you will be charged for it. I've had to inform drivers of that myself on many occasions. I'm not upset about the charges, but I am upset that a portion of my pay was pulled without my first being informed it was due to happen.

Think of it - if you are one of the many people who count on your paycheck on a weekly basis to cover your bills, and you budget each month and prepare for how much you're due to get each week, having something like this happen can be crushing! Suppose your family had been planning on that money to pay medical bills, or rent, or anything for that matter! Here it is Friday afternoon, you're on the road, and you have to make a bunch of phone calls to the office to find out what the heck is going on?!! By that time its too late to reschedule doctor's appointments or make other arrangements for bills, or to budget your money differently from last week to cover the deduction!

When I asked the new safety manager Jeff why I hadn't been informed he said "You're on my list to call here...I just didn't get around to it." To me that's the same as saying "You're a peon; it's not my paycheck; I don't care if you have personal needs or priorities; sorry 'bout your luck."

Personally, I never allowed a deduction to be taken from an employee's check without first informing them of the decision, what the total amount would be, and what the schedule of deductions would be until the full amount was paid. This allowed the employee to make whatever arrangements they had to for themselves and their family. I would also never disrespect an employee by making them wonder where their pay was - they heard it from me before it happened. I would have been horrified if someone ever had to call me hunting down a paycheck - that's truly disrespectful of management.

The funny thing is I was on the yard the day before this occurred and safety manager Jeff even waved to me, but never said a word. Maybe he thought I wouldn't notice? Obviously he thought whatever he had going on at the time was more important than my pay...what he forgot is that nothing is more important to any employee than their pay. Its the bottom line of why we all work. We may get to pick and choose what we do, and enjoy our jobs if we are lucky, but we do it for the money in the end.

Sad, very sad. As I said before, Beacon was alright up to this point...but today I'm on this website looking for another company.

If I had my wish, it would be that safety manager Jeff would read this, realize the disrespect he has shown, consider the driver in the future, and implement a policy whereby a driver MUST be informed before any deductions are taken from their pay. They should be given one pay period's (week in this case) notice to be able to make arrangements for themselves and their family's needs.

Good luck to all job seekers.

What is trucking coming to when people are raising their hineys for companies paying .31 a mile?
No wonder the avg mo. miles in the industry has dropped by over 2k and pay 11% in the last 20 years.

I could care less how great the staff and equipment is, If i got to run my a off to make chump change.
