Put it in your car with a Wilson 5000 magnet mount and it will at least talk 3 times further

 

It's kind of hard to do that type of work yourself unless you wanted to devote a few years to college and spend about $50,000 in test equipment. And then you still need to spend about 30 years Learning the things they don't teach you in school.
I know a guy that does good work but he won't touch that radio because the cost to have him do the work would exceed the value of the radio

 

The best way to boost your range is with a good attenna setup. If you go to cb radio magazine website and read review on the Bearcat 680,880,and 980 you will find that there is very little that can be done with these new surface mount technology (smt) radios as far as increasing modulation and power. Do you plan on using radio in a big truck or your personal vehicle, with that information you will get some good suggestions here on what type of attenna setup would work best for you.

 

If you want more range, you should read this forum some more.

You're going to either need a different radio or an amp. And for goodness sake, don't open it, especially not you.

Wilson 1000 magnet mount? I have one. Didn't you help me compare them once in an older thread?

 

I've never seen one. If you have one I'm sure it's a decent antenna
