Yup, if some Golden Screwdriver has turned up the ALC pots to get "Maximum power!" then the SSB quickly loses linearity, and starts to sound (to use the technical term) like ca-ca. SSB transmitters simply *must* be adjusted using a two-tone input into the mic input, and then by setting up the scope for X-Y input, tuning the radio for a perfect trapezoid (sort of an elongated triangle). Any boo-boos (another technical term there ;) will show up immediately, giving the *real tech* a chance to adjust the radio. I've oft times been tempted to cover the case screws with epoxy to prevent further destruction by other folks down the road, but of course I've been able to suppress the urge ;)

And even the best aligned radio, once jammed into a Class C amp, will make LOUD ca-ca, so all bets are off at that point :(

Hello, everyone, I have a Uniden, 980, SSB, installed in my 2003, GMC, Sonoma, ZR-2 truck.
Also, I have it hooked up to a K40, 6000-watt, center load antenna with Wilson, mini-RG8-coax cable.
In addition, I have the antenna mounted to the left, driver's side fender using a custom made heavy duty, metal bracket, Wilson, Gumdrop stud mount, and a heavy duty coil spring.
I also have a inline noise filter installed on the power cable.
Actually, my setup seems to work very good for me!
I did have to connect a 14-gauge wire from the antenna bracket to the firewall on my truck to ground it. Plus, I attached a length of wire from the case of my c.b. radio to my truck's frame for another grounding point.

Does anyone have any advice on how to remove static noise radiating into my Uniden 980SSB c.b.radio that is coming from the blower motor on my truck?

If you haven’t done it already, run your power cable to the battery. Be sure to install a 6 amp fuse close to the positive post of the battery. You may need to use a bigger fuse if someone has turned the power up in the radio. A lot of times bypassing the vehicles electrical system helps reduce noise in the radio.

That and sometimes simply turning on the noise blanker sometimes does wonders
