    He didn't bring any beer.
The Cades Cove area mentioned on the hog kill is an area my dil likes to go to. It may not be quite the same spot, but it sounds dangerous.

I've seen bears my whole life in the Adirondacks and always gave them respect as a wild animal. I knew they ate omnivorous but that hog kill was totally WTF to me. Pretty awesome and all the more reason to stand clear LOL

I sent her the article since I don't know where the actual area is she goes to with kids vs where this happened. But being in the TN area, there are a lot of woods and rustic areas. Bears are to curious as it is and getting used to people being around.

Oh we have unfortunately domesticated bears up north. They climb in cars and dumpsters and break into hunting camps over the winter.
My dad keeps a few different radios in corners of his woods house all on different AM stations playing all winter while they're in Florida. Supposed to make bears think people are inside. And there's an old bear nose print on the hall mirror that they don't wipe off cuz it's cute LOL. But only cute cuz the bear was gone when they came back....

Growing up in the foothills of the Rockies and having spent a lot of time in the outdoors and up north for both work and play, I've been around bears a lot. Voluntarily... and not.

    Cades Cove you say?

I'll just reserve comment on this.

    Okay, I can't... what a freakin' moron.

When I was living in the far north (Yellowknife, NT) a bear broke into my next-door neighbour's kitchen one night.

It didn't end well for the bear. :(

I agree except for the fact the bear would have paid the penalty.

I've dressed down a few such idiots over the years.
