Is your main concern the price? I'm not going to tell you what to do. But if it was me I would look at the quality of training and with a family training pay would be at top of my list as well.

If you can afford paying for school many companies will reimburse school tuition over a predetermined period. You can leave if things are real bad, forgoing repayment of said tuition. As a friend of mine did, choosing a $4k sign on bonus with one company instead of the low paychecks he was getting.

If you get trained at by a trucking company you most likely will be contracted to run for them for a certain term. Kind of like a slave having to do whatever they tell you albeit good or bad...

I hear ya man. See I didn't have a choice. I couldn't afford the school up front. I did the contract for a year and that will be up this friday. Like I said earlier I went thru the FFE academy. Good school in my opinion. I've even trained some guys from there. If you have questions about FFE let me know. But already sounds like your on the right track.

I just saw an add for a device that you mount on the mirror and it measures the bridge height as you are slowly driving under. It displays the height and you can stop if the trailer, or the top of your rig will be too tall. Best used at about 0.5 miles an hour. But still better than hearing the CRUNCH! If anyone is interested I will find the add in the magazine and post it. Or PM me...

I think most company sponsored training is pretty good after all you get what you put in. There were a lot of childish people at my training so I could imagine we learned more than they did. If I was you I would apply at both and see who gets back to you. I wanted to go to Stevens I applied and I sat around waiting then didn't get a call bak was like wasted time. Swift called me an hour after I applied. Personally I am happy feel like I made a good decision, I did research for a few months and went with company sponsored since I planned on staying for few years and not jumping around. Either way you go you will do good just give it your all.

Very much agree here. You are the only one who can decide what type of experience you have.
