After being level 1'd repeatedly at the Chowchilla scales, I've noticed that these guys and gals get a huge power trip off their jobs. And maybe they have good reason to do this; they appear to be professional people who make a lot of money. I can only hope that one day, I am the mean and nasty man putting you guys OOS (haha...)
Can anybody tell me the process on how to be a DOT inspector at a scale house? I mean, working right there, side by side with the Highway Patrol, doing level 1 inspections... I have a clean criminal background, trucking experience and good work ethic and probably want to get out of the driver's seat in about a year. What's the process for this career move and do you know of anybody who has made this switch?
Thanks.

I believe you have 2 80hr courses, then conduct 30 or 40 supervised Level I or level V( I think the 30 or 40 inspections can be part of OTJ training)

so you are power hungry and want to make a lot of money?
i guess thats your typical DOT inspector -
First off, why in the world would you want to go over to "THE DARK SIDE?"

Actually, being a retired LEO, I've talked to a lot of DOT guys that used to be drivers. It isn't uncommon. What you need to do, is contact the state employment office or website, on where you want to work, and go from there.moloko, "semi" retired and Skate-Board Thank this. -
They probably don't make a lot of money but get every holiday paid, lots of sick time, tons of vacation and a pension that is not right. To top it off its #### near impossible for a government employee to get fired. Perfect breeding grounds for lazy incompetent government employees.
ramblingman, Ruthless, snatale42 and 3 others Thank this. -
That's okay. I'm on my 2nd union trucking job and naturally I want my laziness *cough* uh i mean seniority , to be rewarded with long-term job security.
Actually I just want to feel important about myself. If I could make 50k at that job and not work 16 hours a day 5 days a week, well that's alright with me. -
You can't swap teams mid stream lol. 50k I think your dreaming but can't say for sure. I would be shocked if 30k was the high number
