Hey, Thank you one & all for all your advise.
Do I just approach a hauling company and offer myself for lease?

Nes and yo.
You'll need to have experience as a company driver first.
I had over 7 years experience in trucking and another 3 years in business ownership before I became an O/O. -
You really need to look it all over, and read, read, read, first.
What kind of trailer are you used to pulling?
Want to run open trailer, reefer, dry van, tanker, etc etc etc.
Do a LOT of reading, then ask specific questions mate.
Assuming the work permit has been sorted already though?

Cheers Mate. I am legal to work!!
I've done curtain siders, reefers, flat, hell I've even hauled 100' long I-beams for the bridge to Skye!! -
Pick yer poison then!
Decide what trailer you want to pull, then find a carrier accordingly.
See if you can get some verification of your experience though, and be sure it will all work out BEFORE you buy a truck etc.
Feel free to shoot me a PM etc if need be.

Some of the major U.S. carriers want drivers who have had experience in the United States. It may be necessary for you to work with a trainer at one of the training companies in order to get a foot in the door. I think it has more to do with becoming familiar with U.S. laws. I would check with some who have international operations, such as Schneider, US Xpress and JB Hunt. Out of those, Schneider would be my first phone call. Ask to speak to recruiting, explain your situation and experience and act accordingly.

you should go talk to the local companies in your area. They are likely to work with you just as much as a mega_cdl mill company as well.
