i have alyays worked with heavy equipment and throwing tarps is part of the job i always ask the forklift driver to place the tarps up on the load and work from their...i think i am still healthy a little hard work is good for you...hell i work as a rigger and work is sometimes demanding like moving a 40 ton plastic press that makes 55 gallon drums from one side of a building to the other ...i think tarps are not a problem but great advice....

i was looking at $10-$15k trucks and i found quite a few..but a lot of them were 1995-2003 trucks i know i could rebuild the truck and make it look realy nice but that might limit me on carrier choice a lot of carriers won't lease on an older truck....i would love to have a cummins N14 than an ISX.....but i dont want to spend all my time fixing either...if it aint rolling it is costing you money....

Well, that's true to a point. All trucks wind up in the shop, new, old, and in between. IMO, the pre-2003 trucks are a little more predictable and less costly when they do go in. But each truck is unique. Just don't get too excited about something a few years newer or a couple hundred thousand less miles. It may be less truck for the money.

Well, I won't speak to your desire to go further or whether or not to play with tarps. I'll throw some info tho: mercer has very limited freight in your area, and what they do have there just isn't money in it in my opinion. Landstar has stuff from mass-not generally anything worth taking but there are exceptions.

I have not not worked with jrc. Most folks I've spoken to have had negative experiences, and those with "positive" experiences run ragged equipment and operate as if they could almost be successful if they did some things differently.

there are a couple other outfits that regularly service your area, they are more local regional in my experience. SunbirdTransportation (Norwood) Genesis Transportation (terminal in Portsmouth), PGT (I believe they go further, only guy I know there stays local) , I was leased to George Hildebrandt for a few years, they have a terminal in Portsmouth as well. As far as I know, all the outfits I listed you bring a truck with plates n bobtail n drag their trailers around.

I can't speak to what you want vs what is out there. Genesis does mostly wallboard, as does GHI, and sunbird to a lesser extent. Sunbird has a bunch of work in your area, can't say how their money is but their guys dont turn over much.

what did the guy at GHI drive that you spoke with?

i am independent. I do some broker freight and some direct. I run mostly within 150 miles of my house, Philly/Boston area generally as far as I go. Lot of metro ny/city work. I go home every nite. Haven't found stuff going further that'd make me any more money than short local trips.

I'd call around to some of the local outfits, see what they have to offer. You can go independent, good to know what's doing locally tho.
