No there never was that was a trucker story. Yes your correct legally you can't, but, you don't have to prove anything of where you took your break or with whom.
Yes, this is true. But you can't wear the ones with little booties built in. Too many drivers will drive with them on!
I was wondering the same thing just hadn' gotten around to asking yet. But I remember the same thing. I was driving with Western Carriers back in the mid 80's and had to have white sheets on the bed and and extra set.
not that i was ever aware of......"bedding material".....is all they specify..... that requirement could have been years ago because truckers were usually the first ones at the scene of a wreck, and the police would not have had sheets, as the "coroner's wagon or ambulance" would have. it hasn't been "on the books" (white sheets) for years now, if it ever was..........
BINGO! ..Can't find it in writing anywhere but old timers claim it was true. Maybe it was urban legend but kinda makes sense..sort of...
Its not our job to cover the dead accident victims. The cops and EMS carry supplies for that. I always thought that rumor was funny. Whats next? Body-bags??
well it does make sense when we think about the days of old.....truckers were always at the scene of an accident LONG before rescue, police would ever arrive, because let's not forget, they were no such things as cb radios or even cell phones. one had to hope another driver would stop (4 wheeler or otherwise) then get to a phone fast. the police probably may not have had white sheets in the trunk of thier patrol cars, and would have to wait for the ambulance to arrive or in some cases, the coroner's wagon. as i said, i have NOT seen this requirement in writing now for the past several years in the DOT FMCSR manual. i am NOT saying it WAS NEVER THERE......however.....that requirement (IF there ever was one) could have been removed, in favor of just saying, "bedding materials"........ also, i do not (in my opinion) think the the white sheets were specifically for dead bodies, but to provide some sort of 'reflection" in night time when headlights would be turned on and passing motorists would "see" something in the road.....(just a thought/opinion) i think the BEST person to answer this age old question about "white sheets' would be Diesel Bear......
yeah i would hate to park for the night -n- see a super trucker walking in store wiyh his super man or bat man pj's with those little red or black booties LOL AARRRRGGGGHH ruin for life to see that
