Remember the fruit fly infestation that hit California a few decades ago? Cost them billions in losses to their agriculture. Even as a kid in the 60's riding in a car they stopped you and ask if you are carrying any fruit.

Yep. The tub has slots in it. You put the racks down inside slots, turn it on for a few minutes and the honey comes out the spout filtered, then you just remove the racks, place them back in the hive boxes, pull the comb out of the tub. Clean the dead bees out of the filter and repeat.

The only time I saw that was in a movie staring Peter Fonda. He ran a honey bee business. I was also told that real honey has small bits in it or is cloudy???? May be wrong on the cloudy.

Not filtered it has got bits of dead bees, insects, pollen, dirt, comb, just about everything. And can be cloudy. Once it's filtered it is clean and the color is consistent. The type of plant the bees get the pollen from greatly effects the flavor and color. Hives placed in a citrus field will produce honey that looks and tastes completely different than hives placed in an apple orchard up north.

Mmmm, interesting. I did do a little reading on honey and was surprised how many are fake and all the tests you can do to see if it's real right down to lighting it on fire.

    What? Fake Honey??? Really?

So does real honey not burn? I assume "fake" honey is some kind of sugar syrup which should then burn. But just a gut guess.

Some of the largest honey suppliers were caught passing off Chinese honey as domestic. Big scandal a few years ago.

Eating raw, unfiltered honey from local production will help folks with allergies. We used to eat the comb with our honey. The best honey we had was c when dad placed the hives in clear cuts and mountain meadows in the Cascades. Wildflower honey. Lost a hive to black bears.
