Ok You called it on the binders.
Bees are the one thing I could not bring myself to haul. Too many stories of them getting loose.
Don't get me wrong, I value every bee for the Nation, without a bee or a million we wont have food.
Beeees!!!!

To think my dad didn't have to get stung so much his arms looked like thighs, even with a full suit and smoker.
This Flow Hive thing is such a simple idea, but it will revolutionize the industry. Kudos to the inventors. -

I like hauling bees. The guy I do it for makes it easy.
I park where he wants me. They know which box has my straps in. I crawl in the bunk.
He knocks on door when they are tarped and strapped and ready for me to leave. His tarp and sticks. My straps.
When I get where they unload, I park crawl in the bunk. They knock on my door when they are done, IF I ask them to, or they leave me sleep right there. They put my straps back in the box and all I have to do is drive away.
I did buy a bee suit last year, because the summer before I had a flat tire under load and to say the least , I got a little uncomfortable helping. Neither I or the tire guy got stung.
It is a little unnerving with those bees flying around and landing on your arms and back. -
One more thing. The bee suits do not prevent bees from stinging. The suit just keeps the bees from getting under your clothes. I was told.
Unless you buy the, I think he said, double or triple lined suits. -
bee suits do help regardless of the thickness. the thicker the hotter it gets when worn in the hot sun. one needs a suit that will breathe. don't want a tight fit should be loose, wrap your ankles and cuffs or wherever they can get under.
they've already thought of that and many a beekeeper don't wear much.
inspectors dont either -
I have a basic suit with a face net. the net slips over a hat and zips to the suit at the neck line, elastic around the wrists, gloves and a boot cover for ankles, rarely use the boot covers.
I don't get stung through the suit,
ever -
I've been stung through the suit. Any place that thin vinyl suit lays against you you can get stung. Now i just wear jeans, tucking the pant legs into my boots so no critters can crawl up them, a flannel tucked down into my gloves, and a netted hat.
You will get stung if you play with bees. No preventing that. It's just a matter of how many times. At first i was getting stung at least 25 times every time i went to the hives. Now it's maybe once every 3 times. It's like everything, the more you do it the better you get. Not swatting at them is VERY important, yes that's easier said than done, it takes quite a bit of time to get used to bees swarming around you to not instinctual swat at the ones near your face. And properly smoking them before popping the lid on the hive.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I wonder if smoking them with pot would make them more easy going? They bee like, dude, I'm wreaked, let's go over to the rose patch and munch out.
dca, cnsper, ronslam and 1 other person Thank this.
