Their is many wannabes and has beens doing what we do. People see the shiny fast trucks and are drawn to it, but that's not enough to keep you running when the times get hard and they do.

You have to risk life and limb to get this job done right and no amount of money is worth that. It's gotta be something you love. If you don't do this job right animals die and you pay for it so you can't make money doing it wrong.

It's not like hauling anything else where you show up a couple hours late and they ##### but life goes on. If you show up with dead cattle your likely going to be paying for them unless they're kill cattle and you've made prior arrangements. It's gotta be in your heart or you won't make it. In my experience the most Gung ho guys who talk the most do the worst (not saying your one of them just speaking generally). I suspect they are trying to convince everyone they can do it because they know they can't.

I'd recommend starting out for at least 6 months as a CO. driver and then if your still in it go O/O and make the big bucks.

So many flunk out of this type of hauling most every company is desperate for a good hand. If you want an opportunity it won't be too hard to find regardless of your past/experience.

Thanks again for the replies guys. Really do appreciate it. Haven't started picking up the phone and making any calls so not sure if I could open any doors running as a company hand. Like you mentioned I'm certain a lot of guys think they want to do it. I learned long ago from my pops that just because it's a fast or flashy ride doesn't mean heck of a lot if it's always broke down or racing from truck stop to truck stop. Was thinking if I went o/o out of the gate may up my changes of getting on somewhere, if not then I could always pull a refeer til I made some decent contacts. And I'm by no means certain I could make it pulling a cow wagon but many aspects about it really pulls me in. Having a ranchers lively hood on your wagan until u get to the processor or a feedlot is a high responsibility that can't be taken lightly. And the fact of running hard to get those cattle or pigs delivered so that there is less weight shrink is a virtue, as that effects the ranchers ability to get top dollar and your ability to get repeat business and have a good reputation. I have always loved trucking but have always been unimpressed with just pulling normal 'whatever freight'. I just enjoy specialty niches which is why I ended up as a forensic death investigator 16 years ago.

You should go over to www.livestocknetwork.com and ask there. It's the same as this only for bullracks. Beef Corp is owned by a Feedlot company I believe. It's better off to drive for someone first, that's what I did. Always had a large car that could run.

Thanks IA. I was over on livestock network last evening. They do have multiple jobs posted and a lot for Hogan. Definitely not interested in Hogan. A lot of places are looking for hands in the Midwest and right now I'm in the southeast. Have no issue moving but would want to go where mama can keep working and my boys can get a solid education. Probably more east coastish if she has any say in it. I know it's not optimal...

You could check out Parks Livestock out of Illinois. They go out east a lot.

The dedicated stuff that Hogan is advertising might not be all bad for getting your feet wet. Use them to get your feet wet and move on to a better job with a little experience and your TQA card. Otherwise it's likely you'll be throw to the wolves without much training and be expected to run 1200 miles a day. @ramblingman said it, you can't do this job just to chase money. Your heart has to be in it. You have to have the animal's best interest in mind.
