Reading through all of this I find it amazing how everyone paints with such a broad brush!
There are so many variables in the trucking industry it’s to many to count.
I’m amazed at how freight haulers think there is no difference in hauling livestock or time sensitive cargo as there is on hauling a load of paper towels!

Good points but the sharp tools in the shed deal with the reality. The deadline has been known for a long time and it's 2 days away now. I can't believe people are still whining about it. It's what it is.

Personally I don't like it but that's not relevant.

I hear ya partner and I'm right there with ya. I started in '96 myself. We've seen a lot of new regs and seen drivers leave because of them, but I've never seen it to this extreme. A lot of these guys have never used a laptop and don't own a smartphone. They don't wanna have to learn to use some computer in the truck that they've been safely driving for years and years. And if ya ask me, there's no reason they should have to. They've proven for years to be safe and dependable. Why do we have to let government mess with it?

All I'm saying is that a lot of good, safe drivers are gonna either find something else to do, or retire altogether. And we both know what their replacements will look, act, and drive like. It's getting to the point I'm honestly worried when my family has to travel.

“I know how to run my business” the broker/company gives me 3 peanuts and tell me to make it happen but I’m realizing I really need five so now I tell them I need 5 they say tuff “ you need to learn how to run your business”. In other words for all the regulations and all the health stipulations placed on us. It is very important that we get compensated accordingly. The CDL school was the first hustle these companies pushed.Lease purchase is a majority poverty stricken Operator business. I’ll live less a life than the very company driver I criticize and say I’m paying for a truck only for it to be worn out and worthless or you quit early on. Money and Parking are at the front of all for now. Mega companies know they can offer parking for their trucks and drivers and drop trailers at customers, drop yards, terminals and relay. Who do you think have stake in these autonomous truck programs?
I hope that the wise truckers who have been very instrumental in the rights of truckers prevail. I once brokered a load from a known 1.00 a mile carrier for their owner operators and they literally doubled that rate for outside carriers. I was blown away by the ease of the mega to give me more money upon request. This whole thing of Shippers not paying enough is BS. If that company or broker contract give that shipper/receiver free time. Then you the owner should ask for more money on the front end on what you figure is a good rate for them two hours free time. That’s how I do it.

Yup. Loooonnnggg time ago. Ive run my own business also. Its not the end of a era, it was derby, now its not. Thats all. All you boys #####ing "if i wanna run hard and make money yada yada" or worse, the bold face LIE that you wont make as much money... are just being silly. Your getting the exact same amount of money as you always did, it just takes longer to make it. Thats it. Your pay didn't drop. Im local so go ahead and tell me i dont get a say or whatever, im still gonna speak my mind. My yard stick gives me that freedom. You and me are the same, we run/work as long as we have to, to get it done and pay the bills. Difference is, boss man doesn't cap my ot. Far as im concerned all of you otr boys shoulda been steping up your bids over the last year in anticipation of the mandate. Broker calls and says i got a hot one to calli for 2400. You say, eld surcharge it will cost ya 3. Same weekly take on less miles. Get out ahead of it rather than complain about the pitch you saw coming.

Hahahaha... sounds like your the genius. Riddle me this, if you drive 2000 miles, and it takes you 4 days instead of 3, and your paid by the mile, did you get paid less?

I fully intend to use the fmcsa exemptions to the full extent possible. I will not conform. Fmcsa rules state I do not need to. Thanks for your thoughts.
