Beer in the sleeper?

A cousin of mine just got canned for that exact reason! He drank the afternoon before while at a hotel and his truck was at the terminal being worked on. He showed up the next morning in a cab, put his stuff in his truck hooked to the trailer and went to the office to get some paperwork and they gave him a "random" breathalyzer. He failed, he got fired, he is done driving anywhere in this country for a long time! The same country where it is extremely hard to find a job right now!

 

i used to love my beer as much as the next guy,if not more so,,but i worked on the highway building roads and bridges,there was one night i kept telling this rookie to stay behind the barrier wall, we were working in miami,about 2 am this container truck came from the port,all the nessary safty items were out,,i heard the truck,and when i turned around the vacum of the truck pulled this kid under the trailer,,,poor trucker didnt even know ,he was not sited, on another occassion setting up a lane closer,drunk driver 24 yrs old superbowl weekend ,just as he was unhooking the arrow board it him so hard infront of a state trooper his body was projected 4 lanes ove into oncomeing traffic,,i got the honors of coveing my friend that i had worked with for 5 yrs with a yellow blanket,,and later in the day went with the state trooper and my project manager to exsplain why he wasnt comeing home anymore to his wife and 3 kids,,,needless to say i did get drunk that night,,and that was the last time i ever drank,,,,looking at those kids just broke my heart,,,,,,,i know this isnt the topic here ,,but its just a past exsperience,and a very bad one

 

.04 is the limit for CDL holders in Indiana. period. doesnt matter what you're driving. my cousin gained a DUI on his record this way. blew a .045 or something close. barely over. to the point the cop felt bad having to take him in. but CDL means .04 at all times.

was he a truck driver? no he worked for the Railroad. luckily it didnt cost him his job as the CDL was something he had but wasn't required to have. it just gave him more options with them.

 

I got a DUI waaaaaay back when I was 21 in Canada before it was a felony even. Whenever I crossed the border it was and still is in the FBI/RCMP database and I'm 62 now. This is what Immigration and Border crossing access and it is available to just about any LEO.

It just isn't worth all the future hassles..... period.

 

Okay, maybe one more dumb question on this subject...

Hubby and I spent some off-the-truck time a a hotel. We went shopping at the local grocery, and happened upon a brand of wine that had a label "Simply Red".
We bought the bottle, took it back to our room, and we drank it. I then rinsed the bottle out, and wanted to put it on the truck, to get it home for my "novelty" collection of items bought on the road. Hubby said I couldn't.
Since he has been a driver for nearly 25 years, I took him at his word, and tossed that empty bottle in the trash.

COULD I have had that empty, washed out bottle of wine on the truck?

I think it would depend on the officer and I also think your husband was correct not to jeopardize his job.Better safe than sorry every time in this business.

 

Here in Ohio that would get you a ticket for violating the open container law.

 

I agree with your hubby, but if it happens again, suggest you wrap it in a bag and duct tape it to the inside of the hood.

 

Next time wrap it up well and mail it to yourself.
