your right Chinatown, and a lot of Nursing homes, Hospitals. Stock there shelves. Im way too old for that kind of work. Im very familiar with the Beer haulers also. Id rather do beer than food. Just a pain in the rear running through nursing homes and hospitals. Also, food service, the truck is never loaded in order the way the route is set up, so now you have to work around another stop loaded in the truck, very frustrating.LtlAnonymous Thanks this.

That's what I've heard from so many foodservice drivers; trying to pick through a truck that's not loaded right and find the items.LtlAnonymous and Wargames Thank this.

I applied as a beer truck driver. I didnt leave the interview in the first 2 minutes just out of respect and figured sitting through a corporate type of interview might be a valuable experience. These guys actually paid the opposite of overtime and were all hoo rahh about it. It was seriously baffling why anyone would do that.
WesternPlains and LtlAnonymous Thank this. -
This guy was/is teamster but seemed to do well. Always a busy guy; when he was a route salesman, he ran a side hustle out of his garage selling returnable flavors and coke to friends and neighbors.
He always had a generous uniform allowance so unless it required dress clothing, he was always in a uniform; it's condition suitable for the task at hand until worn out.
The last of dad's huntin' buddies alive and those guys would tease him at deer camp that his boxers said coke or Dr. Pepper...LtlAnonymous and Chinatown Thank this. -
The younger generation sees that and says "You want me to do what?, for how much?". And stay away in droves.
People like to say they are lazy, no one wants to work etc.
Who can blame them. Bet old feller would gladly have earned less and had full use of his body in later life.LtlAnonymous, Pamela1990 and gentleroger Thank this. -
I've done both I worked for a coors distributor for 4 years and I have been with us foods for almost 8 years now. The short answer why beer pays so much less is that there is a lot less profit on the truck. You can buy a 30 pk of keystone for 15 bucks and a steak at a restaurant is 50. One stop on a food truck might be as much as the beer delivery guy makes all day.
Midwest Trucker, LtlAnonymous, Dockbumper and 4 others Thank this. -
I would guess the food products (different sizes, shapes, color of boxes etc) all need to be verified and signed for, which takes time, Restaurants can't sign for 6 cases of steaks, but only receive 5. Some co's may have a "honor system" RE: deliveries, as in, just sign for it, if there's any shortages found later, they will make it good. With beer/soda, every case weighs the same. Food, you can get a case of salt packets which don't weigh much. Or a case of large tomato juice which does weigh more.
Wargames, LtlAnonymous, Pamela1990 and 1 other person Thank this.
