What ever happened to all the media hype about the "Africanized" honey bees, aka "KILLER BEES?"

It was the Africanized bees that got my dad. He passed away about a year later. He contracted a very nasty lung disease called TB MAC. Healthy immune systems are not affected by the spores. But his immune system couldn't fight it from taking hold. Recovery if the coctail of drugs works usually takes a year to beat. The doctors didn't think the Bee attack was a factor but they couldn't positively rule it out either. He ended up passing from a massive heart attack the night they moved him from the hospital to a rehab facility. Took them a month in the hospital to diagnose. They estimated he had contracted the disease approx 6 months prior. Slow growing in the lungs and progressively weakens you.

sorry to hear about your dad...

diesel and soaps kill insects, in some instances those with the label of ahb do attack with in mile or less of thier home/hive. other than the aggressive nature of guard bees and perhaps the size of the hive, the differences between ahb and ehb are so small one would need a lab and microscope to confirm.

Africanized bees only spread as far north to where there's snow in the winter. They suck at wintering over, unless they've hybridized with enough generations of European honey bees... at which point, they're no longer excessively aggressive. Hell, some European strains of honey bees are jerks, too. I have Russians, and if you go anywhere near their hives and they don't like your face that day, you're going to have a bad time.

My condolences xls. I lost mine to botulism back in '83. Almost six months on full life support before he was finally relieved of his pain and suffering.

For the mention, while foraging for pollen, nectar, saps, water etc, honey bee's, Africanized or not are non aggressive, the survival their hive is what they protect when they sense a threat.

honestly, I've dabbled some as a hobbyist only, there are docile bee's to aggressives.
