Bobby and Teddy, two peas in a pod.Bobby had a well known huge hard on for the Teamsters/Hoffa.He knew deregulation would murder the Teamsters in the long run(and it did). The Kennedys were weasels, but very smart weasels.

@JolliRoger - What kind of truck(s) did you drive in the 50's? Did they have a sleeper?

I drove for a none union company, but have worked local 77 when I was in construction. So familiar with how it is within the union.

But even with out the union,.. I was well provided for. If I went out on over nights,.. I was paid $30 cash per diem per for each day I would be out. Paid hotel rooms. 100% Blue Cross/Blue Shield paid family plan, included dental and eye exams. I averaged $600 - $700 a week take home,.. and this was back in 1990. Not bad for a kid under 30 yrs old. Of course,.. I was a 100% company man. I had the utmost respect for the company owner.

Been driving trucks 33 years. Cummins 335 big power in early 80s. King of the mountain was a 1693 cat with an afternoon er. 325@ 425 with afternoon er. Anyway rates then 350 dollars from fontana,ca to LA. 50 miles, then deregulation 175. Too many trucks and rate cutting. Who remembers the 8V92T. I could spin the tires on a K100. No series 60 back then. 92 owner operator silver 92 had a fan clutch, bam another 34 hp when not spinning. Good times, no doubt.

Deregulation meant you could haul anything for your published tariff. In Cali you had to have a call t number. Mine was 166122. Then when they started the bit programme my number went to 69669. Crazy days I'll tell you.
