Agreed. I've been told by several experienced people to work for a company first. Just the other day, I went to a local truck stop and had an opportunity to speak with several drivers. If you have the means to do the same, I HIGHLY suggest in doing so. I spoke with people from all over the place. From 6 months experience to 30+ years. Company, on Lease and O/O. All of them said the same thing: work for a company for at least a year to learn the ropes, then make your decision of where and what you want to do. I spent almost an entire day and even sat down with 3 guys and had lunch with them.

I was told that that by me hitting up truckers at the stops was the best way to get information on the business. Some of them had good things to say, some bad. But it gave me enough information to make a conscientiousness decision that is the profession that I want to do for a living.

If you are going to invest time/money into any business, it is up to YOU to do your research, find out all the costs/fees/licensing associated with your type of business. Also, you must have at least 6 months of capital [CASH] (operational expenses) reserves for any kind of business you attempt to start. You can do some reading here: http://bit.ly/SvTj75

Suggest to your husband to drive for a year as a CD and save his money. Then he can make the decision if leasing is his best option at the point.

Everything including fuel. It's going to vary, depending on the weather, terrain, fuel prices, etc - but you need around $2500 in gross revenue to break even most weeks if you're running, not sitting on hometime.

Well thats not to awful if thats 2500mi or so. Its not great but not real bad either. If you gross $4k and your expenses are $2500 thats still $1500 before taxes.

every lease operation needs the person behind the wheel to do lots more then be on time. They need that driver to be his own advisor which loads to take and which to refuse
to be able to trip plan to always have running hours available. To know when to fuel so your empty at the end of the run not $500 of fuel in the tank etc etc etc
    No inexperienced driver should lease
my 6 month lease bonus was S2800 and last weeks check was 1389 . I must be starving

I have no idea why people think this is good advice. If you're emptying out in a cheap fuel are then yes, however if you're emptying out in SOCal or New Yprk somewhere, why oh why wouldn't you have gotten enough fuel in the tanks to get back to somewhere where it's cheaper.

Like I was telling a guy earlier today, at the end of the week, you made $1000 and have 50 gallons more fuel in the tank when you started the week, figure it as you making $1200. $1000 in cash and $200 in fuel.

so you buy just a squirt of fuel to get back to the cheap fuel

and yes i drive for transam but leases i have looked at from 4-5 companies are basically set up the same
and bottom line you need to have your head on straight to make it work
    most dont particularly newbies

and actually what i do zazook is try to end every pay period on 3/8 of a tank so i can still run towards cheaper fuel
but not have 5/8 one week and 1/4 the next with an extra $400 of my pay in the tank ruining a 3600 mile week and then getting a slow week the next
