Wow, 40 years ago, I used to like playing just 1 bucket of nickels on the nickel slots in Reno, mostly as an excuse to eat cheap at the casino restaurant. But last time I was there, the nickel slots were gone; quarter slots were the least expensive slots, just like Vegas...

Sounds more like a guy with a mental illness. It's interesting how often historically 'evangelical' famous people from history sound like they just might be suffering from delusions...I can think of several from many different religions and sects around the world......

I always give when asked. The Bible verse @Opus quoted was my thought when I seen this thread. I do remember one time before I was saved.....

I was in Nebraska somewhere and a guy actually didnt ask for money or food, he asked for a blanket. And I told him the only one I had was the one I had to cover up with. That sticks with me, the fact that I told him no, and he asked for a blanket. I could've given him the blanket and purchased another. Im glad I dont think the way I used to anymore.

You want a drink, go bother someone else. You want me to buy you a meal, I got you. You want cash? Find someone else to ask. I'm not a ATM. Want a blanket? I'll buy you one. Still not giving you cash.

The guy I mentioned in Jack in the Box didn't ask me for anything, I chose to buy his meal for him. The guy at 7-11 who cussed me out for not buying him a beer? He's not getting cash from me. I'll give him a number for AA though.

I'm agnostic. Guilt trips don't work on me. ;) I like to hedge my bets. :p

If others want to hand cash out to people, that's their prerogative. For me and my own experience, it's just easier to buy someone a meal or a blanket or whatever vs giving them cash.

Reason for edit: Prior meme was more snarky than funny. I wanted funny not snarky.

Last coin operated Slot machine I saw was in the Vegas airport, roughly 20 years ago. Mind you I'm not one to visit casinos on a regular basis. So I'm no expert. I do know the last one I went to while visiting family in PA they didn't take cash or coins. Had to put it on a card. They had penny, nickel, and quarter slots. They also had 1, 5, 10, 20 dollar ones.

I stick to the penny slots. My money goes further. ;)

Jack in the Crack Speedway and Swan, wasn't it? I used to live near there.

North-ish side, I believe it was the one on North Oracle. I used to live near it, so it wasn't very far from the apartment I was renting. Also used to frequent Putney's Sports bar, as I could walk there and home after. Good food at the time to.

I liked that little area...Jack in the box for late night, Whataburger for all day and night, some buffet place I can't remember the name of. Not the best food for you but I was younger, and didn't really care. Heh!

There was a great little hole in the wall breakfast joint, somewhere on the east side that was great. Closed up by 2. Every day. Good hearty portions, and very fair pricing. My buddy took me there the first time I went to AZ in 2001.

Oh an to stay kind of-ish on topic...I'm happy when folks help each other. I may not be the one to give you cash, but someone else will and if it helps that person, it was a good deed. Same with if you just want to buy them a meal/blanket/shoes/whatever.

So I respect the method, as it all amounts to the same = You're helping someone who (hopefully) needs it.

I used to deliver for Pizza Hut 22nd and Craycroft. Some woman with the most lugubrious look on her face would be on the intersection median begging for cash. Even had a chair sitting out there.

One night late I came by and snatched the chair. :evil2:

Tucson had beggars at several intersections about 15 years ago. KOLD 13 or KGUN 9 did an exposé and discovered some of these beggars were pulling in fifty grand standing on these corners.

One guy I saw at Broadway and I-10 had the notorious "Why lie, I need a beer" sign. Now, that guy I gave money to.

I won 250 bucks on a quarter machine back in 2013 in henderson Nevada. Filled the bucket up with quarters.
