The flame of that memory of a happy week near the ocean was the motivation to put that truck into the ocean bridge and get to it with Arizona pending.
But I missed much.
One rule I always had with everyone left (Meaning others fell away out of our lives) was that when we get home, we get one day to stop being truckers. I cannot explain the attitude I get come over me when it's time to take 40 ton out and roll it or have rolled it a little too long and want out. Im a monster. Not nice. best left alone.
I learn to be a son again, to be a husband or whatever it may be. I'll be more than happy to grab the children (Nephews and nieces) and run off a game they understand just to leave off the work and the weight.
And the dispatchers, bless them but they must wait. Surely they have the hands of 20 more lost and wandering waifs to hold across this land instead of calling us on time off.JRex and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this. -

You know, I put this post on here, shot in the dark, maybe one person chimes in. All of your responses have been incredibly helpful. My research is much more productive now and I feel like I have a direction. I am so very thankful for the words of wisdom and that y'all take the time from your day to help a complete stranger. Great people on here for sure.

Got my own CDL without school in november '18. Got first job with "zero" "commercial experience." 2nd job with "3weeks" experience. Im going to pick up truck #3 from employer 3 over the weekend and will be running it OTR as if i was an OO.. So im contract driver for the owner and he is leasing onto numbers of a buddy of mine. Paperlog, 12.7 and 13spd midroof western star, fuel card, emergency credit card, prepass. They asked what i wanted for a trailer. "Spread stepdeck with dumps." Poof, it has been rented. "What size tarps do you want?"
Yes, it can be done. I am wanted back at job 1 or 2 "any time" if it doesnt work out. Im not trying to brag, but to encourage. Will you do what needs done to generate income for all parties? If yes, the industry has a place for you.
None of this is a flashy or easy life, or a thing worth envy. The list of things ive had to do and endure is very very long and it is not something everyone can do. But it can be done. Whether YOU can or cannot is up to you. Not this forum, not those trainers, not the megas, the recruiters or the bears. You and you alone. So make a decision and stick to it.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Okay its been 5 minutes. Have you decided yet? Life is too short for indecisive and trucking wont tolerate it.
If you are in, go to the dmv and get a paperback CDL manual. Get your highlighter, take a few rounds of online "practice test" and then start reading the book. When you see the answer to a familiar question highlight. Then read it all over again a few times.
When you know it inside out, go take your A +air +combo permit test for INTERstate commerce and report back. No one worth talking to thinks youre worth talking to until you get that permit. Then get your medical card for interstate transport. That segregates you from the crowd. Self initiative. -
