Wow! Thank you so much for the responses! It’s been so helpful. I’ve already put a contact letter in for a few of these companies, and I’ll keep y’all posted on where I end up.

You need to decide what you need to stay at a company, in regards to pay, home time, equipment quality, driving area. When someone says ABC Trucking was a good he may not give you his definition of good or his level of desperation. Don't work anywhere until you talk to drivers working there now in the type of trucking you are considering. Recruiters and company web sites make every company sound good. Many recruiters are paid for each warm body they convince to show up for orientation. The words of a recruiter DO NOT obligate the trucking company to whatever the recruiter "promises." You can easily get into a bad situation by starting at companies without enough research. Each time you change jobs in your first year you become less attractive for better jobs. Also, make sure when you start driving you back up several times every day until you are good at backing. New drivers are terrible at backing, great at excuse making, and are undependable. Having the same excuses as other new drivers isn't the same as being a good dependable driver.
