Off topic but explain super load and the cost involved. I am ignorant to the oversized loads.

What constitutes a superload is determined by the state regs. Where you can get permits for your normal oversized loads in a few hours, superloads may take weeks or months, depending on how big or heavy, and require a route survey (someone actually runs the route and determines whether or not you can make it). A DOT certified Highway patrol comes out, meets with you, does a level one inspection right there at the shipper. Pilot cars, state cars, electrical contractors, your company rep....etc.

I'm not talking about one of those mega moves with 3 tractors and 900 tires. I am talking about 200000 lbs, 18 ft wide and 18 tall. Fuel, route survey, police escort, permits, going into the northeast corner...$30000 at startup.

Wow!! Pretty neat actually. You do those moves sometimes? How do you get into oversize? Years of experience as flatbed or what?

They might be able to check records it the driver was inspected in the last day or so . They might also have photos from cameras . You never know.

Not trying to get too far off topic, but i have a question about the tugboat story. You said it was a haznat load and you didnt know it bc of the fuel in the boat? How does this work for hauling machinery? More specifically, construction equipment. Are there limits to how much fuel can be in a tractor or loader before its considered hazmat? Any and all fuel? I cant imagine they drain the fuel everytime its thrown on a trailer and moved around.

All machinery and vehicles are classified as hazmat . Normally a hazmat endorsement and placarding aren't required but additional insurance coverage is required .
I guess this could be compared to carrying small amounts of hazmat material that was less than amount requiring placarding . http://cameochemicals.noaa.gov/unna/3166

Think 'Supersized Flatbedding'. Same regulations, same jobs, everything bigger. The average flatbedder carries 3-4 tarps. We will carry 7 to 12 tarps. Don't like tarping? No one does...but I can make more money in 1 day of tarping than what the average driver will make in a weeks worth of driving.

I simply can not believe how out-of-touch some of y'all are.

A CAT scale is quite obviously a specialized place to park when one is need of a shower, meal, or shopping excursion. Also periodically used for sleeping.
