I think I have used my hazmat a couple of times since I started driving.
I renewed last year on the chance that I was waiting for a load it might get me moving. It is pricey. -
So I had to do a parts run for my boyfriend today, and he sent me to....MARSHFIELD. How weird is that? *LOL* So since the parts were RIGHT up the block from Roehl, I decided to stop in. I called Kim (the recruiter I've been talking to) to be sure she'd be in the office before I barged in...but it was nice talking to someone face-to-face instead of over the phone or internet. I got a few brochures, some questions answered, and told her that although recruiters have quite the reputation for blowing smoke up the butts of those looking for info, just to keep it simple and honest...I'm not 100% "in-the-know", but I wasn't born last night.
Overall, everything seems consistent with what I've found on here and from other drivers...I'm not falling for the "romance of the road" (I've seen behind the scenes), or the "we're the best of the best of the best" lines...I like to feel I'm relatively smart about what OTR means. -
If Kim is your recruiter, you have a good one.
She was my EVO III Fleet manager several years ago when I first started for ROEHL. -
Welcome T-Lady. I started, or should I say, re-started 1/23 with orientation. Roehl is honest in the recruiting dept.
Hazmat, They give you a presentation, a simple test, and you get a card to haul non placarded loads (under 1000 pounds). I have the full Hazmat and hauled it once - drums of paint. Easy process to do following Roehls procedure.
I have HM, tanker and D/T because I wanted to better my chances of getting a job.I had passenger on my permit, but decided not to test out for it. -
I had Kim as my recruiter...I liked her..she didn't blow smoke up my ###...so I was cool with her..

Cool beans, useful feedback...
Assuming all goes well and I get the call saying "puh-leeeze, we NEED you!!" (or something like that), I just found out today that I'm going to have to dump MORE money. Something I didn't think of before, is that I have US Cellular as a phone provider. That's great and all, I've had good service with them, but I'm on a prepaid account, because I like the flexibility. Well, here's the problem...their prepay account isn't nationwide. DOH! So now I get to pick a nationwide plan, which, of course costs more each month...on the UPside to that, it could give me an excuse to get an Android phone...

I don't have an Android phone. I just use one of the old style ones with big buttons, no internet, and not many features. I do get a good deal on airtime though. Through T-Mobile I get 1,500 anytime minutes for $30/month. Another nice thing about it is that I'm not locked into any particular length of time on a contract. It's just a month to month deal. So far this has proven to be a good program while driving a truck.
Also, as other people have said, Kim is a good recruiter. She was honest with me, and my experience with her was great.
Good luck! -
Since I've got USC as a provider now, even though it's prepay, I can use my current phone and go to a regular plan without a contract. OR I can buy a phone outright and avoid a contract. OR I can get a "deal" on a phone and get the 2 year contract...ugh, I hate contracts.

So I got a call from Kimberly this morning. It was a "happy call", as she said that everything I turned in has been deemed acceptable.
Next step is the DOT physical. Apparently they contract out for this, and I'm currently waiting for the call to set up an appointment. I was told that they usually call within 24 hours, and as I was accepted and made offer this morning, I could still be getting the call today to set up the screening. Kim e-mailed me a form while on the phone to take with me, that states I'm to get a fed-med card at the appointment (if I pass), which she says isn't "the norm" in the industry. I have no idea, as I was only driving locally and had been grandfathered into the "we don't need no stinking fed-med cards!" group.
Once the exam is over, it should be roughly 3 business days for the results to make their way to Roehl, at which time I should get a call to let me know what schooling dates are available. I'll just assume that things will go well, as I can't think of a single issue that I have that would disqualify me from passing.
So now begins another wait....this would be a good time for me to be a patient type...
