Nothing should EVER go on your trailer until you know what it pays.

I am over it now. They'll have a hard time getting me to Florida again. I still made money on the run so, it could have been worse.

Yup. They send a load without a rate, I send them a message back that I need a rate before I can commit to picking up the load, and I don't move the truck. Usually what happens next is that they do nothing and I wait until it gets somewhat close to the time I have to get moving on the load or be late and I send another message to them and call and remind them about it. They either give me a rate right then and I get the truck moving or they tell me its going to be a while on the rate and I tell them I'm turning the load down. I've only had to turn the load down at the last minute once and it never happened again.

I got my tax refunds and ordered a flow below kit for the truck. I will have the shop guys install it. I got some Anderson Flaps too, sometimes referred to as flyswatters because of the design. I probably won't get it installed by Monday but maybe the following Monday. The truck swings back and forth between 7.8 and 7.9 as an average right now. These should boost me into the 8's. Can't wait.
They got me on a gravy run right now; 5900 lbs in the box to Houston at 1.74 a mile to me.

Wait til you get to Houston. It'll almost seem like Florida except there's plenty of freight.

I am hoping for something decent. I relayed a load day before yesterday that came out of here to AR and it payed me 1.15 a mile. On their backhauls; if it pays me 1.00 per mile or better, it's a good trip for me. Their rates out of AR are high enough that it works out. Even that cheap one out of FL worked out; as much as I didn't like it.

I wish I could not have a not care in the world attitude about low rates like that.

I am not on my own authority and pull their trailer. I am averaging 1.35 on all miles right now. That is pretty good for 72% of the rate. If I had my own numbers and trailer I would agree that the backhauls rates are too low. The numbers I have in my head to make it fully independent are a lot higher than my numbers running as a leased in O/O.
