I lost my last job because of some time missed when my mother had heart issues and passed away. I was honest about this as some had told me to be,...saying "companies just want honesty, they're family orientated and "understand". Yeah, no is more like it. I was rejected from two companies...and honestly am pretty depressed. I didn't steal or fight. The manager was understanding,..but he couldn't do anything about it (he was off that week)...so HR processed it (factory). No income, I had decided months ago that i wanted to go to a company that has it's own training,..but hadn't yet. NOW,..it's like a major black mark. I'm in a rural area with no real jobs and i had to sell my pickup to pay bills for a few months even. I PLANNED on making the jump,..doing what i have always wanted...drive. It took me weeks to decide on which company. I was all happy and excited,...then boom. Two companies now have said no. I'm in Missouri and i would like to try Prime next,..but i have a feeling it's the same result. One company said work for a year then call back. Okay, i sold my pickup to pay bills and help my family...and go get a great career with a truck company. I have NO accidents ever, the only ticket i've ever received was 20 years ago, and NO criminal history. The two companies LOVED those parts. THOSE,..are more critical. If they would just listen and understand reasons. Maybe i should have followed the advice above and not said termination...

Just say you quit due to a family emergency. If they question you tell them that your mom passed away and you had to be home for the funeral arrangements. If that's what really transpired it isn't lying.

Being fired for cause or similar is going to bite you in the ### in trucking industry wide. Ive been fired god knows.

There is a DAC report made on all drivers from those who participate in the reporting. Nothing is sweeter to the company than to make sure you are unhireable to a report for cause firing... it can be months, or years for about 20 different causes in the Industry to prevent you from hiring on.

The work around is to find a local dump truck outfit or similar who do not care and is rough around the edges. You will be able to maintain yourself until you pay the period of months or in my case 3 years for causing a assembly vehicle plant to sit on it's billion dollar ### quitting under a load of tires. Some story. Bleah. Big deal.

There is a cdl training in the area, and the unemployment office talked about financial aid or grants,...BUT it's not very close,...and i have no way to drive there now because i sold truck. soooo i'm kinda backed into a corner. I would say also with no driving history only factory work, there probably isn't a DAC. So i guess they actually call employers.

Trucking companys absolutely call employers. They have people who sit on the phone and call every single employer you list going back 7 years. And sometimes they learn from THOSE employers any missing information you may have omitted. They don't fool around.

Not to hijack the thread, but what if you've been with the same company for the past 10 years? Do they want .ore history than that?

I ask, because the pest control job I held, I wasn't able to put in my 2 weeks as the current job jerked around on the decision process. So I'm "not rehireable."

Unfortunately, the office space world tends to work like that. I know it was one of the reasons I didn't get an offer from anothet company this past December, as I was pretty persistent about having to know an offer in sufficient time to submit my 2 weeks.

And? His mother passed away and he had every right to be distraught and not able to work for some time. Technically, he quit by not going to work.

But what if it say "terminated" and "no rehire" on your DAC report

As far as I am concerned (And I have been there... three times in life...) aint no employee gonna be told to get to work when suffering a passing. When someone close to you passes, I want YOUR BUTT OUT OF THAT TRUCK PRONTO. Because I know either here or there you taint safe or effective right now. Go home. It's most precious. You come back when your mind, spirit and body is right to do battle on the big road again. But not one day before.

My last loss involved a big scots irish by the name of Snowball, he was a driver and my foreman in the paving outfit. Considering his story in life, his love of living deducted by a postierior arotic tear behind his heart that ruptured when shoveling snow a few years ago not even 60 (And I aint that far behind him....) It's been I think 20 months and frankly Im still having a real hard time getting through it. And he wasnt kin, but might as well have been. =( Ive lost many a good people in my time, saved a few myself. But taint no one gonna tell me to get to work when I aint right in the head or heart....

As far as another poster saying if the DAC is imprinted with No Hire, Fired for cause etc... that's pretty damning. Ive had a few of those in my time and they really hurt in terms of being hired over a number of months or years depending on the offense committed. The spark of temper and anger telling off the nasty scrooge what for, he writes the DAC and you are condemned and banished from the big road a while.

I could wish to take back a couple of those because the root problem lies in money. A small amount of the money that was a problem. It's really stupid to see a billion dollar company dig in and fire me over a couple hundred dollars when I get stubborn and do something stupid. Because I have a dumb temper. But it's oh so epic some of the things Ive done.
