Read through this carefully and think it through.
Ask The Headhunter: Your depression is not your employer’s business
I choose to say no. If I were you. In today's world of trucking any hint whatsoever of mental problems will pretty much make sure you will not touch a big truck. It's nothing personal. Just be very careful what you are getting into here. You will have several people ask you questions at different times, phrased differently and in off hand and direct situations and if you use your mouth to say yes I was (Whatever it was...) you might find yourself on the way back to your house.
You say you have had no medicines for a year. That's pretty good. I don't think employers have the ability to access the prescription board's records on the medicines dispensed to you personally each week for every prescription you have ever collected at a pharmacy. There is a state program in associated with DEA that tracks narcotics etc. Mine has a record going back almost 17 years and it's kept close hold legally.
Im pretty sure at the Federal Level anyone with a bit of time in the right places for the right reasons will uncover what you do not choose to talk about in time. If that is the case, you likely will be dismissed by the employer. It is afterall a at will type employment on both yours and employers part.
I have gone about as far as I want to based on what you have described so far. I am not a expert and I have been in the system as far as Social Security for valid reasons long enough to understand what is possible and what is not possible related to trucking. I can apply almost 31 years total of my life to considering a question if I take the time to think it through.
If you have something new to bring up or a another issue I guess it will come out later. Otherwise, be prepared to see questions that seek to find out if you are a mental risk. Or have a history of etc. As described in the article. -
The problem lies in a recent act in Congress to tie Social Security and the VA administration together with Data flowing between the two to be more closely identifying those who are in counseling as a gun owner at home etc. Or depressed etc. Given enough information the Goverrnment can then proceed. But in order to do that they need data. Historically SS did not share very much that isnt lawful, let's put it that way.
Im not the one worried about this at all, but.. in the last adminstation with the direct impacts with medical questioning all the way down to my basic family doctor suddenly asking me three questions one of which is am I gun owner? What does guns have to do with the boo boo I am visiting you for ... and shove one of his turkey hunting magazines on the desk back at him that was in his waiting room eh?
That pretty much defuses the situation.
But, there have been truckers who have snapped and when they did... I guess we all find out in a short time what's what. One I remember was one who went after the Sacremento Government City hall with a semi. Then rammed the place. I don't know much about it. But that is a example.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Are you a gun owner? I've seen that question and my answer is alway, "no."
Once you say "yes" the next information in the future is "list the serial numbers of all your guns and where they are kept."Mortarmaggot, NavigatorWife and x1Heavy Thank this. -
They are usually seeking to stop that vet from committing suicide as happened a couple of times should that one be refused treatment or narcotics or whatever.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
It will not show up in the hiring process.
TWIC or Hazmat, might be different.
Based on personal experience.NavigatorWife, x1Heavy, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Apply for companies that don't require TWIC ID Card or hazmat endorsement. Plenty of them around.QuietStorm and NavigatorWife Thank this. -

One other question is do you feel bad, do you want to hurt yourself? etc. That'\s pretty revelant to topic aint it?slickWillie1980 and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
These gun questions go along with a survey that students were to fill out a few years ago in TN. The survey wanted to know how much food your parents had in the house, like how much in the cabinets or otherwise. The parents had a fit about it and it was pulled. Can't starve citizens out if you have a storehouse of food there.
