You probably twist your straps to keep them from flopping in the wind also.
Yes I have hauled a few flatbed loads in my time.

 

Never actually pulled a flat bed just read a lot.

 

The straps rubbing against the wood can cause issues as well.

 

Depends I guess on how hard it’s rubbing, maybe the OP can tell us if it rubbed the strap bare or it the strap moved.
