Who cares if they are legal? Just don't use it as counting toward your legal minimum required securement.

How do you descrbe what a load choker is?
I do something I call a choke. Don't see it done very often.
Basic method is to use a 2 inch strap, I like to use J hook type, I also take the lead part off the ratchet, take the bolt out, take the lead off, put bolt back in place. that is where the hook goes to complete the loop. the strap only goes around the load, it is not hooked to trailer anywhere. -

A choke for me is from rail over product, back under towards rail with hook, back over product to opposite rail. Just around product is a isolation strap. (Our terms)

OK, get that. do that all the time on pipe, bar stock, just about anything that is in bundles. Do that with chain sometimes depending on product and situation.
Not sure why it is thought to be not a legal tie down in the US. Been doing it for years. never had a DOT say word one about it. Texas and Oklahoma love to inspect pipe loads for securement. Have been complimented by both on my securement with the wraps. -

Have seen that product. Thought it was a good idea.
Kind of looked at it as a if it was a company provided tool, then I would use them. Not supplied, not spending the money. sorta like deere hooks, company provided.
Have seen something like it on rail loads. have a place that we get loads from that does storage and transloads from rail.street beater Thanks this. -
A belly wrap is from the rail over the load back under the load and finally over the load again to a winch. Like you should do on round bar loads.
I call a strap in between layers on a load a gut strap.
