Besides those two what companys can you lease to. That let you choose your runs without a dispatcher.
Btw of the two, I prefer schneider cause you go on line and pick the run.
What it pays is what it pays, take it or leave it. There is no calling and haggleing or asking for a breakdown.
besides schneider and landstar

With Schneider.......What if none of it pays well enough???????? What then??????? -
I agree with Big Red on this...mostly cause I did the Choice option at Schneider for over a year. At first I made decent money, but there at the end Schneider was withholding loads from the board, cutting rates, and the delivery times were so far out that you sat for a extra day on the load. Not to mention once you got a groove, niche, or steady run setup the loads started to disappear off the board. Come to find out Schneider was watching these things and started putting company rides under the loads.

Lets see.... I thought LandStar had a online load board.... And I'm looking at Mercer's online load board right now...
I think the OP needs to do a little more research if he only has 2 companies in his mind that have online load boards -
Never been an O/O or even a L/O myself (though I'd like to do so before I retire), but REDD and I thought the very same thing here....

WOW big red and pulling trucker dont like schneider? I thought everybody did!
my question remains what companies besides the two I mentioned have "online style" load boards, or dity dispatch systems?
thanks red now i have 3 landstar, schneider, mercer, anymore??? -
There are several carriers that have an online load board. Landstar, Schneider, Maverick, Universal AM CAN, Mason Dixon, Trinity, Jones and Mercer are a few. By the way, I have a friend who is leased to Universal AM CAN and they own about 5 companies and all use the same loadboard. Mason Dixon is one of their companies. I don't recall the name of the other companies. Most of the carriers that I listed are agent based, which means that you are not assigned a dispatcher. Landstar, Universal, Mason Dixon and Jones do not have dispatchers. I am not sure about the others. All of the agent based carriers pay percentage which affords you the opportunity to earn more money over a carrier that pays mileage. If you check around you may find other carriers that have their own loadboards.

This doesn't exist. Freight rates change by the hour, depending on how badly someone needs something moved. You're not just going to sign on with Landstar (or whoever) get one load off, pull the computer out and pick from 200 good paying loads. Anybody that's been with Landstar will tell you the best paying freight never hits the loadboard. I've heard they even tell you that in orientation. You have to be willing to hit the phones to make it. Landstar's agents don't even necessarily call Landstar drivers first, they call whoever they know will get the job done. Sometimes when you call these agents to ask about a (posted) load, more money is a phone call to the shipper away, if it's something they need moved. If you're not comfortable asking for more money when your services are worth it, I think you would be better off working for someone getting paid by the mile. I'm not knocking that approach at all, btw, I think it's a good way to go if you strictly want to run the truck operating side of the business.
