Wolf's Creek Pass, ugh! I was screaming the whole way down.
-
I was sitting on a get on ramp at the bottom of sandstone filling out some papers when I heard a 3000 rpm jake scream by me...
I looked over and saw the blue flash of a werner (all brakes on fire) go by at about 100 mph
looked like a top fuel dragster doing a burnout...
(jackahs!)
I64 is pretty rough - especially in winter -
Thanks everyone for all the replys. I feel informed yet freaked out just the same!

No need to be freaked out. Them hills and passes have been there a long time. Guys go up and down them safely everyday. Don't try to go down a big hill any faster than you can go up it and be in the right gear for that speed. Most big hills have brake check areas before you start down the grade, so you can stop and check your brakes. And if you should ever be in a runaway don't be afraid to use an escape ramp, thats what they are there for. Use common sense and it will get you out of most situations unless there is a mechanical failure.
-
go down the hill one gear LOWER than you came up. On the serpentine curves, make sure you adhere to the speed limit signs and keep it about 5mph under the speed limit..at least.
-
common sense is the key... since a lot of people do not have it - things can get ugly out here...
you will be fine - just be alert.
