boxers or briefs.........tube or ankle socks............tshirt or a wifebeater........sandels or boots or tennis shoes...........beer or liquor..........get my point?

no matter who you ask your gonna get a different answer. you need to look in to what you want to do with a radio. it does not matter if you buy a 300 dollar radio or a 30 dollar radio. they all have channel 19 where 99 out of 100 drivers stay (well the ones who run a radio anyway)

if you like to browse around the sideband when sitting while getting loaded, then look in to getting a 10 meter radio. if you just wanna chase down lot lizards or whisper that you aint got no panties on, then why waste money?

im not being a smart you know what. im just stating the facts. asking which radio is like asking which football team is the best or who makes the best hamburger.

truck drivers cant agree on what eatem up joint to stop at and have lunch, much less agree on what radio is the best.

    hope this helps.

A better question would be, "how do I get the best antenna set up for my particular truck?"

Here are my choices for radios since the questions was asked: Legal CB - Cobra 29 or Uniden equivalent

Export type AM radio - General Lee. or any of the Galaxy type radios.

SSB radio - An old Pres. Grant, or Legal Galaxy CB (don't know number off hand), or one of the Exports, i.e.
Galaxy 88 or 99...........If sideband is your thing, get a ham radio that has been converted to work on 11
    meters.

    specifically a uniden 2510 or 2600
2 of the best amateur 10 meter radios ever made.

the legal galaxy with ssb and a freq counter is the 959.

    Terri Jo,

Your asking of "what CB is the best" is a loaded question.

Some people like Connex radios, some like Galaxy's. (same guts different package) Some like Cobras, while others might like Unidens.

There may even be a few Midland fans running around.

Now, what I tell folks, is for a beginner, you cannot beat a Cobra 25 classic or a Uniden PC68. And I say this because either radio will give you everything you need, in the smallest package, and will work just as good, if not better, than a Cobra 29 classic or a Uniden PC78.

Heck a Cobra 25 or a Uniden 68 might even work better than a Connex or a Galaxy.

But all in all it's all within your antenna/coax that makes or breaks the radio.

Also what I tell folks, is buy a radio that suits your needs. i.e. if you're only going to run ch 19, then an AM CB is all you need. But if you're a sidebander that likes to chat on 38 LSB, then you need a SSB radio.

The legal Galaxy with SSB and without the freq counter is the 949, which I use, along with a pair of Wilson 2k. Recently I've been getting compliments from some of our other drivers that are running Connex and Strykers. They thought I had one of those big radios too.

To tell you the truth. Just about all of the new radios are junk. Connex, Galaxy, Magnum, Stryker and others are based and are built on the same board design and suffer the same problems... A receive full of white noise! Sure they look cool and have plenty of power but that power is useless if you can hear that distant station over the noise. Do you self a favor and take the advice of someone like me who has wasted a bunch of money on these over priced paper weights . If you want to high powered radio then just get a basic 40 ch radio like a Cobra 29. Have the RFX 75 add on amplifier installed and you will have a 80 to 100 watt radio that you can actually use for ALOT less than $300.00!
