Not always the heat from the radio...Even your basic stereo gets warm back there..Behind the dash captures alot of heat from electronics, dash lights and heat ducting that leaks a lil..

Nkt gonna say dont do it but just know heat gets captured there ALOT!!

Do you really think it gets hotter behind the dash of a truck that is insulted from the heat of the engine than it does in the cab of the truck sitting in Dallas for a weekend in August? Really?

    You insulted your truck!!!
Im gonna out out on a limb and assume it was ment to be insulated....Tell ya what...Go drive around in the heat for a cpl hrs and notice your cab temp then stick your hand up into the guts of your indash radio/cb and put your hand on the back end of it and get back to me on it if its only a degree or two in the diff or you singe the hair off your knuckles..

Oh and get the hammer outta yer butt to cause you sound pissy...Jjst offering a piece of advice..

Your radio to do as you wish but im just sayin it will be in heat all the time, parked and drive if left there....
Also common sence dictates that it dont matter where its installed it will be warm/hot in the texas sun...I personally would rather air to be circulateing some how vs stagnate hot air sitting..

The dashboard will be the hottest place in the cab no matter what state you're in. Hot enough to dry your laundry

He likes to do an indash, atleast mine is on my dash where air can move around and i have a reflective cover so direct sun has much less of an effect..
When im parked i also put sun deflectors in my windshield..

It's kind of funny these people think these radios get hot putting out a mind boggling 4 watts of power.

And yes, behind the dash is INSULATED from the engine heat. The cab of a truck can get to 140 degrees plus in the summer EASILY. If you really think a radio in the dash of a big rig gets above that when you key the mic for 5 seconds every day and a half, well I've got some synthetic blinker fluid I can sell you.

You ever stick your hand up inside the radio compartment of an LT in the summer? It'll cook your hand like an oven. Far hotter than behind the dash.

Night Stalker10 and Timin770 Thank this.

Its got nothin to do with radio output itself....The heat build up from engine comp, heat from heat ducting, other electronics and heat of the day...Engine maybe insulated yes but have you ever hear of heat soaking. ..
Either way,do as you see fit for you, just tryin to help a fella out and rather than say thanks for a heads up you just push back with attitude...
Carry on driver and enjoy your day.
