One more thing to consider: I take most of this equipment to a yard and disassemble it on the trailer. Increased deck height can dramatically increase my labor costs. To buy a trailer as low as the low pro Load Max for a class 8 will be pricey yes?

Step ladders. Learn Spanish and hire the Hispanics outside of home depot.

Seriously though, specialized trailer will have specialized breakdowns.

You could get a 48' lowboy or step deck.

Hard to put a 40' load on a step unless you use load levelers, in which case you might as well buy a flat

Let me clarify we strip these down to an empty box. "Sum of the parts is greater than the whole" some parts are scrapped others are sold to secondary markets. Some of these parts are hefty. ladders don't work well and liability is HUGE. The lower the better.
I'm not real familiar with all the different trailer configurations out there. But I also need to winch some of these up onto the deck occasionally. I'm in no way apposed to anything either of you have said. I would love to own a class 8. Just can't figure out how to meet ALL my needs. Maneuverability, versatility, deck height. fuel mileage, power, reliability etc. etc. After all is said and done I also need to move the remaining big empty box to its final resting place.. Is moving a 3-4000 lb box on a trailer that weighs many times more pulled by a class 8 the right tool for the 30 mile round trip? I'm not arguing, just playing devils advocate. I need to decide soon. AAAARGH!
    I appreciate your input.

How low of a flat can I get?

Do they make a lighter duty load all type trailer like this guy I hired once had?

Landoll makes beavertail trailers similar to the one in the picture. My personal recommendation is go class 8 all the way
