The drivers that smack talk the training company drivers, are the 2-5 year drivers that are not much more experienced than the people that they are yapping about. They act like they were super-truckers from the first day that they were turned loose. They basically forgot where THEY came from. You can gain a large amount of information from this website and these forums, but you can't put a dollar amount on gut feelings. You gotta start somewhere, go with the one that you feel the most comfortable with. Keep in mind that recruiters are like politicians, they will tell you exactly what you want to hear, but they are like drivers that have been driving for less than 10-15 years.... they are full of bull-wagon droppings !

it doesn't matter which company you work for. all of them suck. you will get treated like crap. and the person you have to get loads from. are making 2 to 3 times more then any trucker will ever make. and these trucking companies don't promote drivers. any time they due promote drivers. it's into a bottom feeder job. worse then a driver. what you were told. and what you will find out. is 2 completely different things.the only reason you are being offered a job. is the fact they geta training grant. from the department of labor. which is between $3000 and as much as $9000 per person they hire. so they work you well for the most of 6 months. and after that. your screwed. you learn over time. that these trucking companies don't care about you. it's not there place to. and the office staff or your disbatchers job is to make the company money. not you. your not even in there mind until you voice your problems an concerns. your weekly pay is going to average some where between $150 to as much as $600 gross or net. you have to pay for your own cost of living on the road. which depending on your habits can be as much as $300+ a week or as little as $100 a week. the only benifit is. you get to write it off on your taxes at the end of the year. stay a way from companies that force perdiem on drivers. that is all you will be working for. another trick they use. most truck drivers end up living about a 1/2 a step above a homeless person. living on truck stop parking lots, eating bad food, showering everyother day, holding the communications computer. treating it like life support. is no life at all. and any debt you have. you will have to get help with. no real way around it. as for the high the say drivers make. find that driver. and ask. when was the last time you were home? or do you have a home?you will find. that nearly 90% of drivers have no home. and everything they have is either in that truck. or stored at some ones house. and these trucking companies play head games. and when nafta with mexico came to an end. they are pissed. I call it slamming the door to cheap labor. wheen the gate way to cheap labor open back up for the trucking industry. you will be put out of work. good luck

Wowser, I do not think there is a "better enough" job for you. BTW this thread was supposed to be about good trucking companies, however I am sure you will feel right at home in the other section ....... you know, the one about bad trucking companies.
I am guessing you will feel right at home there.

I can't tell you anything about Swift, I myself didn't look at them because I was looking for the home time being retired military. I heard they have a longer training program, which isn't a bad thing for sure. I think SNI & Roehl have good programs, I did like Schneider a little more because I thought the equipment was in better shape, but being new you will get the old dinged up truck until you can show them your not going to add any more dents to them.
Good luck to you, be safe and have fun at it.
