I think he forgot to mention that cummins is the best for a shops bottom line.

Having run "trains" out of Reno, w/ISX's....there fine until they have EGR & re=gen issues. I ran 500HP + 18-speed @ 129K...& that's about right WHEN THEY RUN RIGHT....up to you. NO MBZ anything if yer smart, DDA is a great engine...MAck I could NEVER beatch about other than the captive part.

Spec the truck correctly, and you'll be fine. Spec the truck correctly & you'll be fine. Again...?

    Good Luck

2 miles to gallon on a good day?!?! Holly macro..So arent you working for fuel only? I'm new to trucking-student driver O/O Flatbedding. I'm working for my father.. We have a 2002 Freightliner Cummings engine over 1 million miles and would average 6-7 miles a gallon , we recently grabbed 2008 Freightliner DETRIOT ENGINE 60 series ( did I say that correctly?) that's averaging 6-7 miles a gallon as well... One thing I noticed when I jumped on the DETRIOT , it's loud man! Holly macro...Jbotque you used the word sling, is that another word for leaking/drops? I don't mean to ask you idiotic questions, I'm new to this like said any info will be great! :)
I noticed little drops now under my cab it's oil, and the other day when I was driving I smelled something unusual, like fume/chemical type, then I seen vapor in my cab, I pulled over inspected and what I found was my dip stick for oil level is kinda loose on the top under neath the handle where it connects and you can see little smoke coming out i noticed that there is a small rubber ring, that probably needs to be replaced that way sits better...and as the engine is running I hit bumps etc.... oil is kinda splashing out of there, I can see the dry stream of oil along the outside of the dip stick tube. I'm trying to explain best way possible I'm not sure if I'm making sense. Is it normal if there's some oil drops? I'm leaking antifreeze now it drips when DETRIOT is off, when it's running my temp is good, I located it this morning it's in a tight spot it a short rubber tube about 1 1/2 ID with the 5/16 clamp that supports it. I tighnted it and it better then before.

    Thanks
    Johnny

    N14... lolz!
    Cat, any day.
Cummins from 99 up to 11 are mechanic feeders
Detroit is good and cheaper too + a bit more economic than cat

You can't average 6-7 miles per gallon. An average is one number.

cummins signature 600 engine you can't beat the chrome top up hill or down hill has the best jake brake on the market I hauled 180,000 OD loads and cruised like a 747 Jet liner on Wyoming roads and down Cabbage Hill, OR with ease

Yeah, when I had my 4 axle, pulling a triple 3 trailer I could climb any hill in overdrive, never touch the brakes going down any mountain, and never ran above 190 degree's. (NOT, on all counts)
Crackin me up. I always giggle when the "It doesn't know what a hill is" crowd chime in. Weird that after 23yrs of trucking, and a lot of it HH, I have yet to see this for myself.
Prove me wrong by all means, but until then, gravity is gravity and the Signature 600 (That Cummapart got taken to court over BTW due to it NOT being a 600) only has another 50 or so HP than most other motors under the hoods of HH trucks.
Coupled with their well documented and nightmarish EGR system, they aren't a good proposition for anyone that pays their own repair and fuel bills. Known too many guys that made the mistake of buying them with their own money, and couldn't wait to unload them on some sucker. Company truck where someone else is paying the bills? Who cares....
