ask 10 different people and you will get 10 different answers. personally i like the detroit s60. They can be tuned to well over 600 house. mine is 490 and I can fly by other on the uphills. It will go 65 or 70 up most decent hills fully loaded. I get 7-8 mpg to. The thing with detroits is they like higher rpm then cats. People say they pull hills poorly, but they just need to downshift to keep it in its peek rpm range. Lower your rpms to much and you loose ur turbo boost.

the higher the turbo boost as you call it. the more fuel you burn

What? Who cares about burning fuel. I thought this thread was about pulling power. Every time a cool thread is started about power everyone ruins it by starting to talk about fuel mileage. Come on this thread is about power!

Ducati Babes 3.jpg Asking which is the best engine is about like asking which is the best woman. I used to like plus size, high chested blondes, now I love the little asian girls. It's what's working good for you at the moment that you'll like the best

My ISX with 680 miles on it had a fuel pump go out. Less than 1,000 miles on a brand new truck. It may not be a cummins specific part, I don't know, but I'm not a Fan of them now. Way too quiet. I've driven a 12.7 Detroit, DD15, ISX, N14, and c-15 twin turbo. I gotta say, my favorite was the n14

    Pulling power?

I like the old school 12.7 500 Detroit for an all around good performance motor. It was the first Detroit that impressed me. The thing screams. The turbo is deafening. Pulls good PLUS good fuel economy. Had one in a truck 20 years ago. Cat had their 425/13 setup and Cummins had their 444. I had a 430 and 470 Detroit that the Cats and Cummins would leave for dead. Got a 500 Detroit and was wowed.

    King of the Hill:

Headed up a convoy to a job site. It was a mix of ATS, GreatWide and Bennett trucks. The hand on my donkey was a Bennett driver. Had an old W9 with a healthy C16 Kitty. That was the pullingest truck I've seen in a long time.

There are only two truck engines made CATERPILLER then all them others. From the early beginnings to now its always been a CAT to the top first. If you here one cheap and easy to work on that means you are gonna do it alot. Poor folks like us that have to buy a used truck have to hope for the best if it had 25 drivers that treat it like crap and unskilled dont care maintenance I don't care what the brand its junk. If it was a one owner truck driven by professionals no matter the brand its probably ok. If you consider lifetime ownership cost including fuel milage and compare apples to apples keep in mind as in rated hp and kind of work done with truck CAT will put more money in your pocket bar none
