I use my bare hands. Gloves are for sissys, lol.
tsavory, Pedigreed Bulldog and Skate-Board Thank this. -
Good day. First off, I don't have construction man hands so gloves are necessary. 2ndly, when I first started with my new company, I knew I needed some gloves to protect my hands during the summer and winter. 3rdly, I tend to do lots of research on most things I acquire. My wife will tell you that. That being said. I have tried the cheap gardners gloves you get at the truck stops. 3 pairs for 6 bucks. They work ok for fueling. . I have had the same pair for 6 months now.
Regarding chaining and strapping, I found a company called Hexarmor. These are synthetic gloves. I have several pairs of their gloves covering my winter times and summer.
The reason I went with these gloves is because I was told, if you get into a crush situation, you might want to keep you fingers and these gloves do a great job to protect you fingers. Well, I smashed my finger the week after I got the gloves. I think I would have broken my finger. Stupid me. I was sliding a winch and was trying to push it all the way down the trailer. So I push really hard. Little did I know, there was a winch stop right at the extent of my swing and... well you know what happened. I smashed my finger on it. Blood, Yes, Broken finger, no.
Everyone had different size hands and different tastes, so, I suggest going onto the website and taking a look at what they have. They do have a leather pair with their armor on them. I just got a pair and have not tested them yet. As soon as I test them, I'll post the results.
I can tell you this. I have tested these and they didn't hold up well for chaining, but, the smash protection is great.
Chrome 4026 palms wear out too fast.
Chrome 4027 Favorite pair. Feels good like the 4026 and the palms/fingers last longer.
Rig Lizard 2023 Favorite Winter Pair. No issues. Still going strong. (Hands stay warm. Thinsulate
Rig Lizard 2033. Not tested yet.
Rig Lizard 2026 Not tested yet.
Chrome 4080 Leather Not tested. Will test next
GGT5 Winter 4031 Did not get a chance to test. (Thinsulate) Thick/stiff VERY WARM glove in below zero temps. hard to feel what you are working on. I didn't get to work in them, but, I have put the on in cold weather..
I also tested yesterday as a matter of face, the Cool du Rag. It was 90+ yesterday, and I was working in the hot open sun for about 2 hours. Even though I had a big hat on, My head was roasting. I remember I needed to test this product, so I washed as recommended, then put it on, and I felt my head was about 20 degrees cooler for some time. Awsome product.
Take a look at the website. check out how many type of gloves. Give them a call. they can tell you which gloves work for what industry. (I've called them and given feed back as to what the gloves can do and can't do.)
Now, pricing. Since I was testing gloves, I gave myself a pretty big budget. I think I spent about $300 since last august on gloves. All tax deductible. All work related.
These gloves range from about $30 to $50 dollars. I know, I know. Pricey, but, since I have done the testing already, I can tell you, the Rig Lizard has the best armor (protection). These gloves are puncture resistant as well.
Sorry about being so long winded. I saw this and have done lots of testing on these and had to chime in.abdogg1684 and tsavory Thank this. -
Here are some pics of the gloves I use.
The first pic has 4 pairs of gloves.
1st is the Leather pair I haven't worn yet
2nd is I think a 4009 pair. Again, not tested yet.
3rd. is the 4027. This pair is new, but, I have a pair in my truck which I am currently using.
I like these.
4th. Pair is the Rig Lizard 2023 (I think) Great wear, warm in the winter.
5th. Pair is the Rig Lizard 2030 (I think the number is) I have warn these 2 times. Warm weather glove, good protection, wear is pretty good.
Next pic is is the 2033. Cold weather glove, leather palm. Not worn yet.
2nd pair is the GGT5 4031 Cold weather glove. (colder than the ones above) I have not tested this pair as the temp started to get warm. This glove is like a ski glove. Thick on the inside. Can't do much work requiring dexterity.Last edited: Jun 16, 2015

Here is an update on the Kinco buffalo hide gloves I have been using this year. I am on my third pair, one was lost and the second pair was ruined when the chains and binders got coated with "dust control" mag chloride they had just put down through a road construction area. If not for that, I would probably be on my first pair.

I like the Mechanix Gloves.
They have hold up pretty well,.even wet
I also have a nice pair of winter/waterproof duluthtrading glves they have been rock steady for 2 winters. -
-
I had a few pairs and the seams went out, called them and they replaced them no questions asked.
The winter/waterproof one are a bit pricey but well worth it.
Just like buying good boots.MJ1657 Thanks this. -
tsavory, Flatbed Valkyrie and MJ1657 Thank this.
