that's just it. i don't have any announcements set. i see the poi list and where the weigh stations are. but it's in the GO TO tab. so basically, if i hit the weight station. it'll guide me there.
i have the copilot traffic. it's a 12 month license and was cheap enough. i'd prefer that method over useing the phone and risking a ticket.

Zoomies, I swear if you lined up 10 Air Force officers, 5 Air Force welfare school grads and 5 ROTC grads, I could pick out at least 4 of the Zoomies just by looking at them... But that's how us crusty non- coms roll! -

I haven't seen anyone mention Navigo on the Qualcomm. I certainly have my disagreements with Nancy the Naggigator (lol) but my cost is only $2.23 per week and since I was brand new to GPS I wanted to "test drive" using one without a big investment. I don't trust them. Any of them. Cool tools, but still got big trust issues there. lol. The reason I say this is my advice is to go as inexpensive as you can while developing the conventional navigational skills with conventional non-electronics. That will also give you some time to strike up a conversation at a truck stop or driver's lounge with a driver that uses one and he might let you come out to the truck and see how the one he uses works and the different features you just don't get a good feel for reading the ads or posts. I mean unless you're flush with cash and that big investment is no sweat for you. In that case jump right in and if you don't like it no biggie. Sell it on e-bay or whatever and get different one til you find one YOU like.
With me money was an issue. That's a big investment. So I figured Navigo was cheap (like $100 a year) and truck specific and it'd buy me time to save and figure out which fancy one I wanted. As it turns out I'm just gonna stick with it. For what I use it for it's good enough and I been doin' the old way so much and my laptop, Google Map satellite view and Street View and the cheap Navigo suit my needs for the cool modern gizmos. Tell you what, though. As so many have posted. If you get in a jam with a low clearance or on a truck restricted route and can't whip out your current RMN Motor Carrier Atlas and show them that you checked and that is NOT listed and you relied on truck specific GPS you will be in a world of hurt for sure. The fine will likely cost a lot more than the GPS did. Now, if you used truck specific GPS, updated properly, then cleared the route in the Atlas and have customer directions that told you the same thing and still got in a jam you got a bit of a leg to stand on. Not much else you coulda done. And that does happen from time to time. No system is perfect.
