Ok, you 2 play nice. lol Actually, cc194217 is part of the reason I bought from them. Is also why I bought it from deisleboss. Coming on this forum to help your customer goes a long way with me. You just don't see this kind of service much anymore. Kudos to them.
Dieselboss, JeepCJ, Mark Kling and 1 other person Thank this. -
My comments yesterday non withstanding, I think Mark deserves a lot of respect for what he does especially since no other company apparently has the guts to expose themselves the way Mark has. Also, this isn't the first disagreement between the two of us and likely won't be the last. As a company rep, he has every right to defend the product whereas I am a consumer having bought the product, reserve the right to drawl attention to things I think need to be looked at, explained, or corrected. Since I spend my cash on this stuff, I expect- no - demand it works as advertised. The TND720 cost me around 419.00 or so at the Flying J in Wytheville, Va. That was half of what I was going to put on a new Yaesu dual bander with APRS packet ( it's a ham thing) so it had better dang well work.
As to the Diesel Boss, if you ordered off his website then you truely did a wise thing. Especially in regard to these GPS devices because no one stays on top of the technologly like he does and his commitment to customer service whether you're an actual customer or not is beyond compare.

My 710 is having charging issues. As in, when 'on' it wont charge. Charging light is so dim I have to take off sunglasses and get close to see if it is charging (while 'off'). I hope I didnt make a huge error, I bought the 720, and will send in the 710 for repair and for a backup unit...the features are great, but for the limited abuse its taken in under 60 days...I hope the 720 lasts, or I will have to try a different brand.

Yippy! My 720 was in the mail when I got home today, however, I just got home from Charlotte & I'm very sleepy, so, I better get to bed in case I get called in 8 hours. I will say one thing, it definitely looks & feels much more rugged than the 710 I checked out once. I will give my initial opinion in a few days once I learn to use it.

The bottom line on the external antenna is that it greatly decreases or eliminates any and all of the above-mentioned phenomena. If a driver's environmental is such that he or she does not experience GPS signal dementia on any regular basis, then an external antenna is not needed. Also be aware that it drains a very small amount of power if you have the GPS turned off and not plugged into power. It will slowly drain the battery if left that way over several days (like going on home time for the weekend and leaving the GPS unplugged from power, but plugged into the external antenna.) Final tip: the connection is a "snap ring" connector. It will make a small "click." DON'T keep pressing it thinking that it is not connected. It is. Click=done.Mark Kling and SavageSam Thank this. -
Ok, I used it today & boy is it SWEET! I didn't use the external antenna & I didn't have a single drop out. Maybe I wont need it. I got it just in case. I'm very happy with this unit, but, I'm too sleepy again to go into detail. lol. I will probaby take a day off over the weekend & then I will give a more detailed initial opinion.
SavageSam Thanks this. -
Spatial dementia. Going to have to remember that one.
I'd still be interested if it provides more, less, or no difference in reception. I used to have an external antenna for the 76CS I used for APRS packet operations on two meters. That particular unit had a detachable antenna and the external I believe was BNC. Was absolutely necessary in that case. Built in and permanent antennas have come a long way since I bought that unit. Especially in these dash-top devices.
