After years of using a Garmin Nuvi Idecided to upgrade to a RM 510. Huge mistake. I documented most ofthe issues I Had with the Rand on prior posts here. The Rand wassuch a unmitigated POS that I sent it back to them with a letterdemanding that they fix it or refund the purchase price. That wasabout a year ago and I still haven't heard back. I really don't care, they can keep the useless POS. My simple Garmin is a superior productin every way. I'm so peeved at Rand that I may quit buying theirMCRA. I will never own any GPS other than a Garmin.

With $800 I can buy two hookers and an 8 ball and I won't need a GPS to route me there.

If their cab environment is attenuating the signal, then placing a receiver up on the dash near the windshield will help. If their signal is not being attenuated then there will be no difference.

I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on a TND720. I own a 465T and two months past my two year extended warranty, it died. I'm torn between being used to the garmin interface (buying a 560LMT) and wanting to try the 7" rand w/wi-fi.

Just a note here. One can add redlight and speed camera poi via the poi factory or other suppliers. Poi factory reqires a meager membership fes. However, many jurisdictions are removing the things for a variety of reasons.

Just as k7tkr mentioned you can add the POI's from POI-Factory. Note that they may be in a .gpx format. You would need to convert to .csv format. I use personally GPXtoPOI, it is freeware and very easy to use. Once you convert the file format then you can use the Dock to import into the TND. Note make sure you have the TND connected to AC power once you import via the Dock.

Note also here - these custom POI's will show up on the bottom bar in a light blue on the map screen. They can be controlled under Main screen/General/My Custom POIs - Manage Custom POIS. Hit the "X" to delete them or tap on the name to change the settings/parameters.

These Custom POI's are not supported for content by Rand McNally. You might get warnings about low clearance going under an overpass or a red light that is above you on an overpass for example..

If you find them in error or having incorrect data you would need to contact POI-Factory.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Just a note Mark, I had absolutely zero problems loading those two files using the TND dock software with 720 connected. I did one by downloading directly using the TND dock and the other I pulled from my hardrive also using the TND dock.

The new Dock may be converting them. I will have to check.

    Thanks,

On the TND dock on the main menu there is an option for addinv poi files as general or alerts. There is also button for POI Factory which will take you that website. That's what I did for the first file and used add alerts for the second one. Worked well. Having some interesting location errors- not a Rand issue but I've found that one needs to be on the exact road the poi is located on.

I don't understand the need to know where red light cameras are, except to those people that often run through early red lights.

I am all for having those actions recorded for future reference by the courts.
